it's funny to see that despite apple's "hate" for flash, safari handles flash content quite well! it has the lowest cpu% when watching a youtube video, compared to chrome and firefox. imo, what safari needs are better/more extensions. it clearly lags behind its competition.
you're right, i haven't upgraded to lion yet.
i've heard that there were some problems with flash and safari in lion, but i thought they were ironed out in 10.7.1 :/
dear developer, if you read this comments, please make your app available for download through the old site (code.google.com).
there are many people (like me) who love your app, but don't use the MAS.
as of version 12.0.725.0 dev, the bookmark icons in the bookmarks bar (and to be more accurate, only from those bookmarks which are organized in folders) start to flicker when i click on them. is anyone else having this strange behavior?
there's still no master password function. it seems google is unwilling to implement that feature. ok, fine by me, but at least don't make the saved passwords so easily visible. google should really consider the safari way of managing saved passwords, otherwise i don't see the point why chrome should save the passwords into the keychain of mac os x.
when i first heard of the mac app store i was like "wow! finally something like the linux package management system and repositories are coming to the mac world!" little after that i heard of the restrictions that apple placed on the MAS and was very displeased, since most of the apps i'm using wouldn't even be available, due to this restrictions.
i still don't get it, why i have to log into my account and have to provide a credit card number just to be able to download some free apps. apple should ask you for a credit card the first time you're going to download a paid app and not during the registration for an apple id.
that said, i'm sure the MAS is very convenient for a lot of people out there, helping them to find the software they need, but for me it's not and therefor i never use it.
flash has a long way to go on the mac platform, but i'm glad to see that some improvements have been made. flash now uses less cpu % than it did before. i guess we have to thank steve jobs's rant on adobe about that.
vlc is simply great! it plays everything you throw at it and has the lowest cpu utilization while playing hd video on my machine (a late 2008 aluminum unibody macbook).
granted, the ui needs to be polished a bit further to become more mac like, but it's a minor and not so significant backstep in comparison to all of the goodness you get :D
thx vlc team, thx you so much for this great player!
to all of you guys who want to try out nightly builds, you can grab them from here
after a long time i can finally set firefox as my default browser again! the new Ui is wonderful, firefox 4 is super fast, sometimes i even get the feeling it surpasses chrome in terns of rendering speed.
the hardware acceleration could be a bit better though. cpu and gnu utilization is a few % higher in comparison to chrome and safari when watching youtube videos (latest flash player installed), but i'm pretty sure things will get better with the next 4.x releases.
no other browser has so much configuration options like firefox, not to mention the add-ons!
in a few words, i love the new firefox! :)
