very disappointed this update didn't solve the "slow repair permissions" issue that many, many are experiencing with leopard. using du to repair takes ages, slows the computer down to a crawl, and reports a host of repairs. repeating the process produces the same results, so repairs not done. research on the problems shows that the repairs are inconsequential and can be ignored, but, with so many, how are we supposed to know when a "consequential" one appears in the list. then there's the inconvenience of a computer that is useless for 15-20 minutes every time you want to repair.
I love this thing. It has a few glitches - i can't find how to get text to wrap around images, and auto fill for tags doesn't predict upper/lower case as it does for categories.
BUT - it is just the thing i wished i had a couple of years back when on hols and trying to get ical to give me a tavelogue.
have found it much more writer friendly than the excellent mellel, which is great for turning finished words into a document, but not good for me as a writing app.
I updated from 10.5 to 10.5.1 on my PPC laptop (powerbook alluminium) and on my intel iMac. it worked fine on my iMac, but on my powerbook it causes Mail to always crash on launch. I've posted in apple discussions, and others are also experiencing the problem. beware.
resizing the search field is a real plus. and one of the main reasons that safari was my main browser. with camitools, camino has enough features and configurability for me (although i do miss some of ff's extensions such as web developer). safari for my tastes still has the better looking UI, but camino renders pages better. ff is by far the best Windows browser, but for me its a very close race between Camino, Safari and ff on the mac. Camino 1.5 by a nose.
good, quick support. had a problem with several corrupt files inside iPhoto. SD provides a smooth way to send logs through to support, and the help people responded quickly and effectively. now my bootable back-up is, well, back up. thanks
Camino is again my default browser. This version, for the first time in my experience, is significantly faster than Safari. Not as full featured as firefox, it has the advantage of OSX integration with Services etc.
Safaries icons etc are more elegant and waste less space. Another major benefit in safari is that you can adjust the size of the search field. the default (and so far as i can see, only) search field size in camino (and ff) is too small.
but for performance (esp when combined with CamiTools) Camino is again my favourite browser.
First, we should recognise what this app is trying to be. Not a full web design program, but a way to broadcast iLife created stuff on the web, preferably using .Mac.
Even given these limited aims, there a serious deficiencies. It is hard to simply view a page in a browser (you have to save the entire site first, then view). If you have made changes to only one page, you still have to save the entire site, and same goes for uploads. Images are stored in image folder corresponding to each page, meaning site-wide images (links, background images) are store multiple times, leading to bloat.
Sometimes text is converted to a png image, sometimes not, with no warning.
It integrates with iPhoto and iTune nicely, though.
thanks - although you can't get the reg number from Mellel if Mellel crashes on launch... However I had the reg number elsewhere, and the rest worked fine and I'm now up and running. thanks!
VLC won't play out-of-region dvds. I have run out of region resets (having taken it overseas a couple of times - because it's a LAPTOP!) and want to play out of region dvds. but VLC refuses. sometimes i get a message: dvdread: read failed for -1/4 blocks at 0x01
any suggestions? another player i might try? thanks

Note to apple: please fix.

Safari Bookmark Exchanger
It either crashes immediately on launch or tells me it can't find Chimera preferences folder and fails to function.
I have emailed the developer (about two weeks ago) and heard nothing back.
