Contrary to some other reports here, it does seem to work with Snow Leopard, as long as you disable its function in the Finder itself (easy to do from its preference screen).
And for those who don't read docs... After the first time you run it, the only way to get back to the pref screen (or to disable the program, for that matter) is to launch the app while holding the Command key.
DockBlock also does this (though you wouldn't guess from its name), and its half the price. Plus it also does its main function of allowing you to disable the dock (it provides its own app switching menu).
Exactly what I was looking for! Unobtrusive, easy to use, flexible. Lets you name the screenshot when you save it, so you don't have a desktop full of files with unhelpful names like "Picture 11." Free and better than the shareware equivalents I looked at!

BTW, I was able to crop 2 pix in Click2Crop, then somehow couldn't figure out how to do it again, weird...
