Thank you for pointing that MpegStreamclip's doc pretends that the .ts files as usable.
If you actually could use the .ts files with MpegStreamclip b7, the .ts files I get from my TNTV may be somewhat exotic.
However, since HANDBRAKE CAN READ THESE .ts FILES, I still think it is an issue for MpegStreamclip and a useful information for the MPS users in the same situation.

I just mentionned MPEG2 Component, because YOU had asked : "Do you have the Apple MPEG2 Component installed? "
The fact is and remains that:
- I am using SN, not Lion,
- I have Apple MPEG2 installed, as you asked,
- Mpegstreamclip cannot read the (maybe exotic) .ts files I can save from my TNT TV.
My experience that drawing attention on an anomaly is more useful than encensing a developer whose truly good job I did acknowledge in previous comments and a huge test in Macupdate.

Can anybody advise of another app that would provide the auto-renaming of the files to be saved that have a redundant name? I would not hesitate replacing the otherwise appreciated DFX with this app if it were necessary.

Therefore, one gets two times more rapidly a file which cannot be read by any Mac Player (Message : "This is not a movie file").
So if you have hours of CPU to loose more rapidly, Handbrake 9.5 is a must.
Otherwise STOP HANDBRAKE A FEW SECONDS BEFORE IT FINISHES THE PROCESS. Then you will get a nice readable movie and loose only a few seconds of the final generic.
One question remains : why do Handbrake makers have to spoil the whole and long work conversion process during the finalization phase ?
BTW, except if you have blocks of pixel to attenuate (in which case HB is really useful when it provides a readable result), you might be better using Mpeg StreamClip which contrary to HB never ends with an unreadable file.

Indeed, I am using advanced parameters, assuming they are made available to generate better results). I admit that even when HB completes the task successfully, the advanced parametersdo not seem to do any good.
Whatever, Handbrake ALWAYS fails when the input file has timecode breaks. Unfortunately, this often happens to me and probably to many other users too.
What I dislike is that HB keeps computing for hours before providing an unreadable file. There should be a preliminary test and a warning saying to avoid loosing so much time and CPU.
Please note that, unlike HB, Mpegstreamclip identifies the timecode breaks and can repair them, thus almost never failing.

I have provided a large comparison of HandBreak and MpegStreamClip in MacUpdate, based on almost 1000 tries (plz see http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15466/mpeg-streamclip). I mentioned the advantage of the quicktime mpeg2 paying add-on not needed with Handbrake, plus several other advantages of Handbrake : good batch options and management of the subtitles …
Please do not misunderstand me. I acknowledge the work of Handbrake's developers. Simply I could never get a better result with Handbrake than with MpegStreamclip AND I keep thinking that when HB is failing (extremely often when one tries to use other options than the global HB presets) it should not be discovered after hours of useless processing. Some kind of early warning should be provided.

Subler

Subler quickly replaced the original file with a "movie" file that could be read but with a discontinous sound and 2 thirds of the movie missing.
Backup the original before you use Subler and do not expect much.

My point was just that
- Subler did not detect the problem
- REPLACED the original file (defective, as I made it clear) with something even worse, instead of creating a new file.
All these softwares could usefully make early tests and give up as soon as an anomaly is detected, instead of going on and consuming a lot of time (like HB) or scrambling the input (like Scrubler).

- This app found only 5% of the images Canon.CR2, tif, Jpeg, .nef
- it could not preview the .CR2 and .nef
- it could not recover the files larger than 64k, unless I bought the software. Thus being a totally WORTHLESS DEMOS and a very inelegant way to force people to buy
- the interface is not user friendly and the documentation does not correspond to the panels and tags displayed = much more complicated than the competing softwares.
To me, this app is by far the worst of its category.

Disk Drill

I have accidentally erased a 2TB disk where were the files of more than 9000 slides I had scanned with Nikon CoolScan in 16 bit and HQ format. It was a 30 year work summary, totaling more than 1.1 TB. Although I immediately stopped using the disk and I started trying to recover the files. All the last versions of the rescue softwares failed : Data rescue, Disk Warrior, Drive Genius, TechTools Pro. All failed pathetically, either not recognizing the files (even with the sample learning option in Data Rescue's IQ) or interrupting the process with the dreadful "B-tree node size is wrong" message.
Then I found this new app "Disk Drill" and all my precious pictures started to be recoved, one by one. I could actually look at them displayed, unlike other softwares in which one has to wait for days before discovering what was recovered and whether the recovery is correct. This Disk Drill is magic and lightyears ahead of all its competitors. Now, unlike still mentioned in all the internet forums, the lethal second when one erases a precious HD is no longer a condemnation.

Data Rescue
Although Data Rescue recovered 99% ot the other 8 bit files, it was not able to recover any file with a 16 bit depth.

VLC Media Player
I can hear the sound but no image is displayed.
This does'nt happen with the 8.X versions of VLC.
Any suggestion (other than shifting to Leopard) most welcome.
