Good program, but the new features in v12 don't justify a price of half the full product for the upgrade. I'll stay at v11 for now - especially since the advertised speed increase could not be confirmed in reviews.
The basic functionality is given, results are quite good. But:
- no documentation, i.e. none at all (except a crappy developer video on their site). The user interface is not exactly self-explanatory.
- Aperture plug-in installed incorrectly (you have to manually change the rights of the plug-in folder to make it work ...)
- "Import" menu item does nothing (I found out by trial and error that it only works after selecting "New...", which just opens a stupidly animated drag and drop window); it should at least be greyed out when it's not working. Again: some documentation or help files are necessary!
- when paying for the full version using instant Paypal, you don't get your registration code immediately but have to wait for hours.
If you're like me and tend to forget which movies and books you already own, you'll love this program. Let it make a nice webpage showing your stuff and you'll never end up with two of the same DVDs again :-)
I have few problems with books not found, only very rare volumes have to be entered manually.
I used to play the PC version and I'm happy to have it on the Mac now. Quite a few bugs, but playable. And as addictive as ever.
- sound switches off completely for a few seconds if you open a trap.
- speech has very low volume. Volume sliders in Options don't help.
- many texts nearly illegible because of " 10" strings scattered throughout
- aspect ratio in wide mode (iMac 24') seems off (different than e.g. 1024x768)
- translation errors (e.g. the german translation for those "large chests" that start to bite as soon as you try to open them is missing - so you always know it's a mimic and not a chest).
- Windows manual - don't tell me to install DirectX on my Mac, OK?
I hope those issues will be taken care of in an update. And the successor should also be made availabe for OSX.
Nice little editor, all that's been needed for many tasks.
What I don't like: if you activate Diamond via the Dock, it always opens a new empty window (fortunately it doesn't do that if you change programs via cmd-tab).
And I don't find the horizontal scrolling particularly useful - an option to use standard vertical scrolling would be nice. The page up/down arrows also don't work reliably (often those only adjust the view a few pixels).
"Undo" is also unreliable (e.g. the Homogenise feature is only undoable if you're lucky).
What's really missing is the stander "Recent files" menu.
Looks like program made for Windows. If a video gets stuck (due to bad connection) or if you try to jump forward some minutes, it will never resume playback. You have to restart and watch the ads again - and often it gets stuck right after showing those.
Just got it with the MU bundle - and it gets stuck at the file listing of any ftp site imported from Interarchy (which doesn't have any problems connecting to those servers).
I went to the FAQ, tried to switch off the Mac's firewall etc. - all to no avail.
The built-in cam in the iMac works fine - but the "old" external iSight is even faster for recognition. There was only one of my DVDs that I couldn't get to work, even with lots of trying.
Also works fine with german DVDs and books, so the critics below that say it wont work outside of the USA must be old reports for previous versions.
What bugs me and will probably lead to me not using it any more eventually: the program tries to get into my personal login keychain on every startup (and I have to forbid it every time) - what the heck does it want with my login data?

PhoneView
But otherways nice app. Price is high - I wouldn't have bought it if it hadn't been in a bundle.

This is far from ready and useable. But if you love to watch Oil of Olé ads over and over again, this might be for you.
