I used to use this app until a few years ago, and it was reliable for a time until it broke for some reason; perhaps due to a Mac OS X update. I am really not sure.
At any rate, being as it is now easy to set up a Gmail account and a Yahoo account in Apple Mail, this app has become redundant for me personally, and is no longer necessary. With Apple Mail, I easily check my Gmail and Yahoo accounts every 15 minutes.
I have been disappointed in Electric Sheep for quite some time now, the reason being that it looks rather crappy -- blurred, pixelated and out of focus on a large monitor.
As I recall, this was not the case with my older Macs which had smaller monitors, such as a 17" screen. However, on a 24" iMac -- 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo -- and a 27" iMac -- 2.88 GHz Quad Core i7 with 8 GB of RAM -- as I said, it looks rather awful.
Also, I have never seen anything as beautiful as the exotic images which are used to advertise this software.
If there is a solution to the low-quality image problem, I'd really like to hear it.
Is anyone else experiencing this fuzziness on large monitors?
Perhaps it is just my personal taste, but some of my favorite screensavers are Hyperspace, Multithemes X-Galaxy, Multithemes X-Vortex, Solar Winds and StarCluster. There were a few other well-done SS in the old days, but I can't remember their names now.
With so many good movie players now available for Mac users -- such as VLC, Movist, MPlayer and QuickTime -- and other useful installations -- such as Perian and Flip4Mac -- I don't know why any Mac user would still need to download this alien software which does not even conform to Macintosh standards.
If you use it just to download videos -- such as from YouTube for example -- you can easily install a web browser add-on such as Download Helper and do the very same thing. Plus, with Download Helper, you can also select the

This first one is not a web browser plugin; it is a standalone app as far as I can tell. I have never used it, but it has a lot of positive comments on MacUpdate. It costs $15.00.

This one I am not sure if it is still in development or not. The web page indicates that it will not be free once it comes out of beta, but the page also says that it was last updated in 2010, so . . .
While it probably has already been said somewhere in this thread, I just want to remind novice Mac OS X users -- and perhaps some not so novice users as well -- that this is a paid-for PREVIEW of Mac OS X Mountain Lion. It is beta software. It has a lot of bugs, as well as incompatibilities with current apps. This is NOT the final, commercial release version of Mountain Lion, which will be coming out later this year.
Unless you are a serious, experienced Macintosh developer, you really should NOT even consider purchasing and downloading this software.
More importantly, you should definitely NOT purchase and download this software and install it ON TOP of your current Lion installation. If you do this, trust me, you will totally regret it, because it will break some of your current apps, and can potentially mess things up for you in a very serious way, so that you may be forced to do a total reinstall of Mac OS X Lion, and even that may not totally resolve your problems.
The ONLY condition under which I personally would suggest purchasing and downloading this software -- aside from those who may be Mac developers -- is if you have an extra computer, or at least an extra, unused partition, where you can examine Mountain Lion's new features, without affecting your current Lion installation, but even that is "iffy".
Again, perhaps this warning has already been issued to novices here, but it doesn't hurt to say it again.
BTW, I have been a dedicated Mac-only user since 1990 who has invested many thousands of dollars in Apple hardware and software, so please don't think that I am dissing Apple here, because I am not. I simply don't wish to see some foolish users suffer unnecessarily.
Although it brings up the usual notice about not being compatible after installing the Mountain Lion preview, TotalFinder still does seem to work. If there are any flukes, I haven't noticed them yet.
However, Antonin, how soon do you intend to release a version that is fully compatible with the Mountain Lion finder?
Thanks so much! Great product, and well worth the price!
Thanks for your reply Ronl, but I already deleted the Mountain Lion Preview and reinstalled Lion from scratch, because ML was too much of a pain in the butt. It broke too many things for my liking.
If you do a lot of work with text and typing which involves a lot of copy and paste, Paste Master is an invaluable tool which will meet most -- if not all -- of your needs. I have been using it for quite a while now, and I have never been disappointed. It has saved me a lot of work and time.
Developer: Please note that installing version 6.8 on an old G4 500 MHz DP Mini-Tower running Tiger 10.4.11 crashes the System Preferences app during the installation process. I attempted to install 6.8 about half a dozen times and System Preferences crashed every time.
Solution: Reinstalling version 6.7 on the aforementioned machine immediately resolved the problem.
Just thought you'd like to know in case you are still interested in backwards compatibility as far back as Tiger.
Over seven and a half hours ago I received an email message from MacPhun informing me that FX Photo Studio Pro 2.2 was available via software update within the app. Since that time, I have made multiple attempts to download the update. The download speed from their website is ridiculously slow. After about twenty minutes, barely ten per cent of the 84.1 MB update has downloaded to my hard drive. I have a very fast Internet connection, as well as a 2.8 GHz i7 Quad Core iMac, so I know that the problem is not on my end.
I had to go out to take care of some personal business, so I left the app running so that the slow download would complete while I was gone. Upon returning home over three hours later, I discovered that the download had aborted itself.
So, here I am trying yet again, and once again the download is as slow as molasses, and I am just waiting to see if another download error is going to occur.
Aside from the extremely slow download rate as I mentioned in a previous comment, this developer really needs to consider making a regular DMG file available whenever an update is available. Many of us like to keep DMG backups of the apps we use for emergency situations.
Only making updates available from within the app itself is for the birds.
Please reconsider your strategy and manner of distribution. Thank you.
Anna, for your information, it took several hours to download the 84.1 MB FX Photo Studio Pro update. Yes, I finally got the update, but as I said earlier, this is not acceptable. You really need to find a better, faster, more efficient way to distribute your software, as otherwise, you are going to anger a lot of your users. People lead busy lives, and they don't have hours to waste waiting while a file downloads.
It might interest you to know that in the same time it took me to finally download the FX Photo Studio Pro app update, I can download a file several GB in size from the Apple website. That says a lot about the quality of your download link.
Also, to reiterate what I stated earlier, you really need to start making a regular DMG file available to your users whenever updates are available. Many thousands of Macintosh developers offer a DMG file on MacUpdate, and on other software download sites, whenever an update is available for their software. What prevents you from doing the very same thing?
Just making the update available from within the app is not acceptable. I had to repeatedly restart the download because it kept stopping, or getting stuck, or failing.
Please carefully consider my suggestions. It's for your own good . . . unless you want to lose users.
No demo? Tsk, tsk! Asking me to purchase your $15.00 app without a demonstration first in order to determine whether or not it meets my needs is not acceptable.

I was saying that with Download Helper, you can also select the quality of the video that you want to download, when different versions are available.
