I've been using this little gem for several years now without any issues. xMenu is extremely handy and useful.....a most valuable 'freebie'.
DEVONtech puts out some really stellar software.
xMenu's version 1.9.1 release notes are contained in a version history pdf file included with the download.
Here's what's new and improved:
VERSION HISTORY
1.9.1 NEW Control-clicking on XMenu items opens the alternate menu.
NEW Italian and Spanish localizations.
Improved New application icon.
Fixed Support for plain text snippets.
Required Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
Looks like those who are still running OS 10.4 or 10.3.9 are out of luck with this version.
Very aesthetically appealing. Well executed. My one criticism is that the transitions from one color combination to the next are not seamless enough; there's too long of a lag between each.
Other than that, two thumbs up!
A rather mindless game, and I do fancy arcade type ones but this one makes no sense.
I kept blasting away at enemy "frags" but always resulted in "me" dying. I lost interest before long.
Anyway, this puppy made my MacBook Pro run at pretty high temps, its fans running at constant maximum speed due to the game needing maximum processor usage.
If I played Laichenberg a lot I'm sure it would fry my MBP's logic board before too long and possibly burn out its fans.
So I dumped the game and went on my merry way.
Script It is ok but I really can't see how it's any better than 'Scrivener', it's $40 or 'Storyist',it's $59, both excellent or the wonderful 'Celtx' which is free, free, free of charge.
Anyway, give them all a spin and then you decide which one tickles your fancy.
Norton IS crapware. Virtually guarantied to feck up your system and give you a shytload of grief.
Anyway, as has oft been pointed out, there are just NO active viruses out there in the wild, one reason being that Mac's OS architecture is very difficult to penetrate with a virus, so virus writing miscreants would rather spend their time focusing on PCs.
Rest assured, if an active, working virus is set loose the Mac community will be alerted in plenty of time to take defensive measures.
So stay calm and don't get hemorrhoids.......there's nothing to lose sleep over.
Radium's an absolutely sublime, sweet confection. I love Radium!
I'm an Electronica, Trance hound and my favorite streams are just a click away in my menu bar.
Radium's support is second to none; always accessible, responsive and helpful.
CatPig Studios is a 1st class act in every respect.
I purchased Intego's Netbarrier about 10 months ago; now I discover that it's been discontinued as a standalone app.
Apparently, unless I purchase Virusbarrier Netbarrier will no longer function in a couple of months.
OK then, for this screwing by Intego I'll just not purchase any Intego software again.
I don't really need Virusbarrier; ClamXav and iAntivirus are just fine with me.
As we all know, there aren't any active Mac viruses out there at the moment but I will run ClamXav or iAntivirus every once in a while to alert me should a cootie appear.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if Intego or one of the other companies puts together a Mac virus and sets it loose on the Mac-using community as a way of instilling fear and generating antivirus software sales.
Each game lasts maybe 20 or 30 seconds. Difficult to control/aim the ball. Appears to be only one level of play, no easier level.
Made my MacBook Pro generate a lot of heat, fans ramped up to 6000 rpms.
I put Spinball into full screen mode and then was unable to access Spinball's menubar.
Could find no way to exit full screen mode, pressed escape key but couldn't exit.
Had to do a hard shutdown of my MacBook Pro by pressing the power button; this was the only way I could find to exit full screen mode or the game itself.
A real POS. Jalada did a really poor job putting this game together.
Flying toasters skimming across one's screen, little wings aflutter....how charming.
I like it, but how about some alternatives as well?, like, hmmm, let's see now......flying condoms! Yeah, now there's a thought.....flying condoms with little wings aflutter. Hope some developer grabs that concept and runs with it.
God, do I have some brilliantly creative ideas or what?
After downloading ACP Web Services 2.0.0.4 I found that every one of the AWS apps contained in the Browser, Catalogues, Manager and Service Folders crashes instantly upon launch attempt.
Is Chronories a CPU hog?
I gave Chronories a try. A while after installing it I noticed My MacBook Pro's temps rising and fans spinning at about 4500rpms.
When I checked Activity Monitor I found that 'Chronories Agent' was at 100% CPUs.
After quitting Chronories I found that that its Agent runs persistently at 100% CPU ( ok, ok, 99.8% to be exact) ....Something's obviously not right here.
Yeah, I know Chronories is still in Beta....5th beta version?
Obviously, this matter needs attention.
I installed Chronories once again and kept it going for several hours but did not experience the very high Agent CPU usage that I did before.
CPUs stayed at a respectable 1-1.3 %.
What accounted for the previous 100% CPU anomaly remains a total mystery.
As to Chronories itself, It's not quite to my taste....I'm not knocking it, though, I just prefer a more traditional journal. Different strokes for different blokes.
Yep, Earthbrowser is currently dead in the water. When I attempt to launch it, I get a message saying, "This application requires a version of Abobe AIR which cannot be found( I've already got AIR installed with my copy of Earthbrowser). Please download the latest version of the runtime from http://www.adobe.com/go/getair."
I downloaded it rom Adobe but couldn't get a useable .zip.
So the problem is without doubt at Adobe's end.
Unfortunately, 'CAPS warn' works only very sporadically for me on my MacBook Pro w/OS 10.5.8.
I've got it configured to warn me via sound and flashing screen if caps lock is enabled but it alerts me only sometimes.
Also, the visual red 'CAPS warn' icons in the menu bar show only occasionally.
Too bad, 'cause this would be a very handy little app if it worked reliably.
I recall trying' CAPS warn' several years ago when it was free and experienced the same problems with it. I had it installed on a Powerbook then.
I've got no problem paying $6 for it if it did work reliably.
One irksome issue that I've encountered with 3.6b3 is with Javascript.
I've got it enabled(the Javascript box is checked) yet on websites that require Javascript to use I'm informed that I need to have Javascript activated. So,apparently, Javascript isn't working in this latest Firefox version.
Am I gonna dump Firefox because of this? Not in your life.....I'm really "jazzed" with it now after using it for quite a while. I've found it to be an outstanding browser; I'm really in sync with it.
When I encounter this Javascript issue I just switch to another browser temporarily....I keep several on hand in case one lets me down in some fashion.
Firefox is blowing me away with its excellence, current issue notwithstanding.
Earthbrowser.com......When I go to that site using 3.6b3 this message appears on my screen: 'Javascript is required to use this website, please turn it on or use a different web browser'.
Well, the deceitful schmucks are at it once again. The developer and colleagues have, obviously, got their buddies to load MacUpdate with positive comments for their app.
The commenters below, Mieze, Ausstan, Alexvovxhenko, Ivanoff, R397, Inemoss, all have no other comments or reviews posted on MacUpdate, no downloads(except for R397) and all have last log-in dates of between September 24th -27th, 2009.
Personally, I have absolutely NO confidence in such ethically corrupt developers nor in their software. I absolutely DO NOT trust them. No doubt, personal integrity is a concept unknown to them.
As far as I'm concerned, they can take their software and shove it up their bungholes!
There's no shortage of quality maintenance apps offered by trustworthy developers from which to choose: Tinker Tool System, Cocktail, Onyx for example.
I, also, have the issue of my MacBook Pro's temps sometimes shooting up and fans spinning at over 5000 rpm when "Protect My Mac" is on.
When checking Activity Monitor, I find that iavd is at nearly 100%. Turning "Protect My Mac" off brings temps back down and fans back to idle speed (2000 rpm).
Hope the developers find a fix for this issue.
Other than this one problem, iAntivirus seems to work ok and is fast. It hasn't found any viruses, yet, but that's because there aren't any active ones in the wild at this time, but I do like to keep an anti virus program available and run it once in a while.
xBack crashes every time when trying to run the wonderful screensaver "Electric Sheep".
I notified xBack's developer about this issue a while back but so far no fix. Maybe in xBack's next version, hmm? One can hope.
Wallsaver runs Electric Sheep without problems, though, so a fix should be quite feasible. Otherwise, xBack works quite well....been using it for several years.
