Songbird

Thraddish reviewed on 01 Dec 2011
Like some of the others I want to like Songbird. The one thing that is really holding me back is how it CANNOT integrate the 'play/pause','backward','forward' on the Mac slim keyboard.

If anyone has ever dabbled in Linux Songbird very much resembles some of the free music playing apps they offer. I didn't read into the literature but am pretty sure this is a port from linux.

This is an app worth trying.

As with all Bare Bones products this is slick and sophisticated underneath a simple interface. It would be nice to see a spelling dictionary incorporated into the next version e.g. the one Camino Browser integrates is a godsend. Being able to correct words as you type them instead of going up and running spelling is a serious time saver.

Armagetron Advanced

Thraddish reviewed on 20 Nov 2006
Not since Ambosia's Avara have I played such an addictive arcade style game online for the Mac. The physics to the tron light bikes are pretty incredible making for a game where experience gives the edge. Double binding, digging, and maze navigating are skills you gain over the hours/weeks/months of immersive playing. That non-violent aspect makes the game light hearted unlike those FPS. Some of the nicest fellow players I've encountered yet online. My only slight complaint is that some are a little discouraging to new players.

Adhering to the overall theme of the movie itself, Tron is played cross platform. Windows/Unix/Mac all play on the game grid. Ironically most of the kids who play this game weren't even born when the movie came out in 1982.

I write this review only because of my surprise this game isn't far more popular. It's free, you instantly start playing, the learning curve is quick, and there is infinite room to improve your tactics because there is always someone cleverer than yourself.
