Nice MBI app that not only lets your eject any mounted volume, it also give you a visual representation of how much space is left on these volumes. As it sits in the menu bar, it provides a percent value of disk usage. An invaluable tool and well worth the price at the MAS.
To the developer: A thousand thanks for providing a great screen shot of your app. It is not only large and readable, it gives a great overview of what Conjure does. I'm seriously considering a purchase.
After reading the review by @Nicksloan I gave this some serious thought. Even though the dev's website was down, I got a good rundown of features on the App Store page.
There was one thing that nearly stopped me in my tracks: Needing a scanner that Image Capture recognized. I have a Fujitsu S500M that's been very good to me for a couple of years. However, Image Scanner doesn't recognize it.
Well, the software that comes with the Scansnap is pretty versatile and I decided to risk the $15.
At this point, I'm glad I did. It took a couple of minutes to configure a new profile for the Scansnap that would send scans to PDFScanner. Though PDFScanner doesn't pop up as it would with an Image Capture scanner, it does work and does the OCR and saving in a straightforward manner. I'll still use DTPO for the heavier research but for scanning the odds and ends of daily life, this app is great.
Recommended - an excellent application (one star off due to the Image Capture limitation).
While not necessarily a bad thing, this program looks like a port of a Windows program to the Mac. The online documentation and FAQ are all illustrated with references to how things work in the Windows world with no info about the Mac.
One thing that's missing that is a real downer for me and others is that there is no direct email contact info given. To ask a simple question about a feature or minor problem you have to sign up for their forum and post it there. I feel much more comfortable being able to contact the support group directly rather than in a public forum.
Also there is no info on the developer's web site about the company, the principals, or anything about their experience and expertise.
@ developer: You have some good points here in you reply. Thanks for checking things out on MacUpdate.
Actually I overlooked the chance that a PM on the forum might be possible. Thanks for mentioning that possibility. I'll head over there and see what happens. :-)
Never trust a piece of software that garners so many rave reviews that all sound the same, and all sound like the writing on the developer's web pages, especially the tutorials and help.
These all sound as if they were run through the same translation application and they all sound juvenile.
This may indeed be a great pieces of software but I'll hold off on using it until some creditable reviews come in from reliable sources.
Incidentally, my ISP flagged an incoming email announcement from this outfit as failing its very reliable spam tests. In other words, it was in the same category as all the genital enhancement and Nigerian scam emails.
I welcome intelligent and reasoned dialog with the developer and with legitimate commenters here on Macupdate.
I was looking at various window management apps and ran across FiWi. Unfortunately the above links to either the download or the dev site result in 404 errors.
I use a nifty lite app called Jing that will create a screen grab of whatever area of the screen or window you want, or create a video. Once the screen is grabbed you can annotate it with text and shapes. It's free and works great with Lion. The default save is to name it using the current date and time, but you're always able to rename it on save. Control-J is the key shortcut.
To the Developer: It's not a good idea to submit a screen shot that, when clicked, get reduced in size rather than expanded. I can't tell a thing from the thumbnail or its reduction.
This free app does what it says it does, quickly and flawlessly. I've been using it for a few years and though it hasn't been updated in a while, it still works great, even under OS X 10.7.
I use it primarily to rename folders full of photos to reflect the composition, such as "2010_08 Chicago Tom xxxx" where Tom is the photographer and xxxx is the sequence number.
It's easy to use: Drag a folder to the "Choose Folder" field, open the "Options" sidebar, insert a string of characters in the "Prefix" and set up the sequence setting, and you're ready to go. There is a "Test Change: button that will change the names of the files in that folder in test mode so you can see what they'll look like. If they are satisfactory, then clicking the "Do Change" button will effect the desired changes.
A gave this 5 stars for Features as its feature set is as good as it gets: simple and to the point.
Five stars for Ease of use because it is extremely simple to use - no Help documentation is needed (none is provided).
Five stars for Value as it just works and is free.
Five stars for Stability as it has never crashed or misbehaved in any way as I used it from Leopard through Snow Leo and in Lion. This is the way an application ought to work.
While there are other apps out there that have more features, they get more complex and trying to set them up gets tiresome. As usual, your mileage may vary as those apps might be just what you need.
Clicking the "Visit Developer's Site" link above returns an error for something called Posterious. Same thing happens when you visit the MAS and click on a similar link for support.
It would be nice to know that there's a real developer with a real support page before purchasing something sight unseen.
I tried this and after setting up my FTP site on a web drive, I selected "mount" from the options and got a message "successfully mounted." However, that was the dying gasp of my system as the entire Mac froze. No Finder, no Safari, couldn't force quit, nothing except to hold the power button in for several seconds. Tried again, same result.
I went and downloaded the free AutomountMaker, and it does indeed work fine in SL. Easy to set up, no need for the app to run (Webdrive requires you to select a drive from within the app), it just creates a script that mounts the drive. I've got the script in my Finder side bar and clicking simply mounts my remote servers. Slicker than ice in the Antarctic. Aside: My only gripe about AutomountMaker is that it always comes up in icon mode rather than list mode but that's a real small nitpick.
