I had high hopes for CrystalClear Interface, and spent quite a bit of time learning its complex features in the last two days. It has a wealth of controls, and the $12 price is reasonable — if it works.
HOWEVER, I quickly discovered it kills MacJournal whenever I try to launch that app, which is mission-critical to me.
This happens even after restarts. Thus I had to immediately delete CCI. (I needed to use the DMG to get hold of the de-installer.)
Afterwards, the only trace left of it was a beautiful desktop wallpaper called “Sunrise,” but as soon as I tried switching to other ones, it disappeared and couldn’t be found again. (Heck, i might pay a buck or two for a batch of the app’s desktop pix.)
What I would like is a small utility to selectively color the tops of windows to differentiate Safari from Mail from iPhoto et al when I have a plethora of windows open. Seems like this would be a useful niche for some dev, and would be hugely helpful to people like me.
But Apple strenuously fights the idea of any third party making “skins” or anything similar to change their maddeningly-pristine Platinum non-color, just as they’ve managed to kill so many haxies from Unsanity.com, like the Windowshade that I adored. One report states that Apple’s engineers don’t even read bug reports where [Unsantity’s] APE is part of the installation.
If anyone knows of any alternatives, please post them.
I'm a sucker for interesting interfaces, and the sample screenshots for this intrigue me.
And I don't mind going to the App Store. But it's listed as $7.99 to buy, and if you Google it and chase all the sites claiming to offer it as a "free" trial, they all kick you back to the Apple store.
I begin to wonder if it's a bait-and-switch. At a time when EVERYTHING is offered with a trial, why isn't this? (And does anyone know if Apple scrutinizes items being offered for sale through them?)
We need more user experiences here. Anyone? Anyone?
Unfortunately, Journler now crashes immediately on launch ever since I installed the 10.6.7 Mac upgrade.
I assume this is a problem others are having as well, but I can’t find any answers on the web no matter what I do.
The Journler forum is so overrun with spam, I can't tell if anyone ever answered my complaint. An email to the developer Phil Dow is still unanswered.
This is one of the best journaling apps ever made (and I've tried them all), but it now is supposed to be open-source, but really appears to becoming abandonware.
The thought of losing my 569 irreplaceable entries in frightening. The data files are in a quirky .jrtfd format, and apparently can't be exported to any other journaling app.
I’ve already been through this when having to previously abandon MacJournal and maybe even one other diary app before that!
For this reason, I have to rate its stability as .05.
I'd fiddled around with a trial of SOHO Labels, but found some features nettling — especially the inability to "step back" if you made an error in a label.
Labels & Addresses is astonishing in its depth and capabilities. (They also have a superb user manual and helpful videos.)
An great extra feature is seamless integration with their fine Art Text app, which I already owned.
MOST IMPORTANT, when I had a question right after buying it, I posted my query on their forum on a Friday night and I had a reply Saturday morning,. They work weekends!
Admittedly, I got in on a 40% discounted MU deal, but after seeing what it can do, I'd gladly pay the full price.

On the MU page, it looked great. But this app is GONE.
This app should be REMOVED by MacUpdate.

1P does this and scads of additional things already, does them better, and I'm continually delighted with the improvements they continue to add.
I wish the developer had spent tis effort building a product for an area that is not already being covered so well by existing apps.

uPointer is a borderline utility worth, at best, HALF of the ten dollars they're charging for it.
But far worse, you will have an irritating reminder coming up every fifteen minutes from the moment you install it!
This is insane! Haven't they heard of a two-week trial?
BrawerSoft.com grossly abuses Mac users. Be forewarned.
