i've been using OSXplanet for quite a while. decided to see if there was any activity on it recently, came here and saw comments on how it would store copies of pictures on the hard drive. so i checked ~/Library/Application Support/OSXplanet/desktop and found 48 GB of archived screens. that's right, GIGABYTES. and like the commenters below, i didn't have the setting checked for it to do this.
well OSXplanet, it's been nice, but you're coming off my hard drive for good unless someone picks up development again. sorry to see you go.
i am a paid user. this used to be pretty good software when it was Kainjow Software's Pod2Go/Life2Go. JoeSoft (AKA ProSoft Engineering) acquired it and made some significant improvements. i paid for the upgrade. but as is turning out to be typical for "JoeSoft" they have neglected to update the software for several years and support is next to nonexistent. last time there was a Jax update (2007), iTunes was at version 7 (right now it's at 9). lyrics downloading works but using the visualizers with the latest OS/iTunes crashes frequently. performance even on a high-end Mac is extremely sluggish.
i can't believe ProSoft has the nerve to still keep this on their website and charge $50 for it. i recommend avoiding Jax like the plague (personally i will avoid ALL "JoeSoft" software in the future). a lot of the functionality Jax provides is either now built into iTunes or is done better, faster and with more stability by cheaper or free software created by developers far more committed to their home-user level products.
supposedly XML Nanny has gone "open source"...but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case and appears to be abandoned. one can't even download it from anywhere on the sourceforge page. it's a pity because this software was one-of-a-kind; i would have even paid for it.
glad to see Useless Creations still maintaining the screen savers. i have (jokingly) dubbed Space Wars 3D the "conversation killer" because once it kicks in, everyone in the room stops talking and stands there mesmerized by the action on screen. it's well done and VERY distracting!!!
it's a neat feature to be able to download new ships but new ones have't been created in a while. that's not really an issue as once you have downloaded all those available you probably won't feel the need for more.
i've seen some graphic glitches when the ships "warp" but otherwise it's pretty stable. would be fantastic if sound effects were a selectable option (with volume control).
if you're a PodWorks user and saw it stop working when you updated your iPhone or iPod Touch to the 3.0 software, never fear...the developer has a compatible version in beta that will be released shortly.
easy to use, well-designed, and works like a champ. this app was essential to me when taking a class in XML/XSLT. the developer refused(!) to take donations for his work...even though i'd happily plunk down $15 for a great wrapper app like this, because i'd have no idea how to install or use the command line apps. brilliant stuff. thank you so much for this.
i had purchased ZipIt before i had heard about BetterZip, and when i tried BZ i regretted not having found it sooner. finally after seeing new features and improvements to BZ added all the time i broke down and bought it, and have been very happy with it ever since. FREAKIN' SWEEEEET!
i can't vouch for speed increases with this application; i think your mileage may vary depending on your existing connection. if you're looking solely for a speed boost, this may not be for you.
however, this app has been indispensable for managing downloads...i love the ability to resume downloads and drop in a list of URLs to download. i like having the control of directing each download to its destination, rather than having to move it manually. for me, this is truly a download "manager" as far as organizing my downloads.
