Warning!! Apple may have already released a block for this JB.
I was able to successfully JB my iPad3 around midday Friday (release day). I waited until late in the evening to update and re-JB my iPhone 4. During the update process, iTunes re-downloaded the 5.1.1 software. I thought it odd because I had already downloaded 5.1.1 about a week ago, but I didn't pay it any mind. After the update and restore, Absinthe said my device was not supported. Naturally I was shocked as their site clearly states iPhone 4 is supported. So I immediately suspected the newly downloaded 5.1.1 firmware and my suspicions were correct. The NEW firmware is 5.1.1 (9B208). The version I downloaded a week ago, and the version that is JB on my iPad is 5.1.1(9B206).
Luckily I still had 9B206 for my iPhone on my computer. I simply did a restore with that version (it was still signed/approved by Apple) and Absinthe correctly detected my iPhone 4 and JB with ease.
So, it would appear that Apple has immediately released new 5.1.1 firmware the blocks this JB. DO NOT update to 5.1.1 (9B208) if you want to JB your device. You have been warned.
I didn't mean to imply that Apple only blocked iPhone 4, simply that a new version of 5.1.1 is out there and it prevented Absinthe from working. It could affect any/every iOS device. But if as you state, Absinthe fails simply because of a version mismatch, then it should be an easy fix, otherwise this may be the shortest JB window ever.
@dachkater - If your iPad 3 is Wifi only like mine and Sherlockbones is correct that the update is only for GSM devices, then you would never see this update, having no cellular devices. But that doesn't alter the fact that the update is still out there (potentially only for specific devices) and that Absinthe in currently incompatible with it. So in theory, an person with a GSM iOS device who does a RESTORE via iTunes could trigger a new download from iTunes and get the 9B208 version.
YES, YES AND YES! This is so close to perfect and can't even tell you. This developer is a superhero. Gestures have been added to the latest version. Two problems though... 1) Five fingers is a bit tough. Gotta get it down to at least four. 2) The swipe gestures are backwards!! Meaning the desktops change in the opposite direction of my gesture (and opposite of how Apple's gestures work, which is what we're all used to).
To elaborate, if I have 3 desktops side by side and I'm on desktop 2, when I swipe from right to left, that means I'm moving desktop 2 offscreen to the left and bringing desktop 3 onscreen from the right. The desktops follow the motion of my hand. TotalSpaces is currently set up backwards where if I move from right to left (while on desktop 2), it moves me to desktop 1, presumably because desktop 1 is on the left and that's the direction I swiped in. But the desktop doesn't follow the motion of my hand. I moved from right to left, but the active desktop moved left to right... that's backwards.
This needs to be flipped or give the end user a checkbox to choose which behavior they want. For people new to trackpads and gestures, this might be OK, but for experienced users, this will drive us crazy!
I still totally love this app, but this has got to be addressed before it gets 5 star awesomeness.
Thanks for replying. I played with "Scroll Direction" checkbox in the trackpad prefpane. Very strangely, after toggling it on and off a few times and testing the behavior, TotalSpaces started to work in unison with the way Apple does. I SWEAR it was backwards after my initial install. Now it "feels" right to me. But I agree, a checkbox to clear up any confusion would be nice. :-)
Thank goodness someone has finally written some software that starts to fill the gaping whole Apple left with Spaces. This software is about two or three updates away from being awesome. Next steps to awesomeness are desktop labels and gestures. GOTTA have gestures. I use a trackpad at home and work and use the 3 finger swipe the change desktops. Going back to hotkeys will feel archaic. Thanks!
This does not seem to work with the new Growl, v.1.3.x, which is an application rather than a prefpane. Without notifications, this tool puts a serious burden on the end user. Having to manually watch connecting apps is simply too much trouble. When notifications, get fixed, I'll try it again.
Sounds like a cool idea, but app won't launch for me. Tried versions 1.0 and 1.1. Absolutely nothing happens, as if I'm not even clicking on the icon. Does this work in 10.7.x? I finally figured out why this application (and a few others) would not open for me. Apple's stupid quarantine file attribute. I had to manually remove the quarantine attribute and then voila, the app launched.
WTF!! The 10.6 upgrade has seriously broken something. EVERY song in my iTunes library, whether local or being streamed via iTunes Match skips almost every 10 secs. EVERY SONG. iTunes is completely useless to me now. I restarted iTunes, I've restarted my computer. SKIP! SKIP! SKIP! I guess I'll have to try to reinstall iTunes. If that doesn't fix it, I'll be looking for another audio player.
UPDATE: After re-downloading iTunes directly from the Apple web site and fully reinstalling, my skipping is gone. Apple continues to have issue with their delta updates.
I used to be a fan of this software, but I'm on the verge of switching to PS3 Media Server. Why? Because it's simply works better. A lot better. The PS3 MS's interface is awful, but the software just works, right out of the box, with practically no configuration. I started the app, it found my PS3 on the network, and flawlessly played a 12GB mkv file with 5.1 audio without flinching. With the tick of one checkbox, I was then able to stream DTS audio! All over wireless N! All of the above is a pipe dream with MediaLink.
With the latest version of MediaLink I tried a half dozen different files and with a half dozen different configurations and under no circumstances could I get it to stream 5.1 audio to my PS3. I filled out of form requesting help with the issue on the Nullriver site and a month later I've still received no response. As a paying customer, I expect a bit more. And MediaLink can barely handle a 1.2GB mkv, let alone a 12GB file. And the configuration options are extremely limited compared to PS3 Media Server. Obviously they were going for ease of use here, but the limited options hinder your ability to fine tune to the server to your particular network.
So if you're looking for a media server solution that simply gets the job done, PS3 Media Server is it. The interface needs work but the functionality is superb. And best of all it's free! It's shame that a paid product is so inferior to a free one.
I think there might be a small bug in lastest version regarding quarantine warning for downloaded files. I have this feature on so I do not get warnings. But what I have recently discovered is that a handful of downloaded apps are not having the quarantine attribute properly removed (presumably because I'm bypassing the quarantine warning) and thus the application will not open. I'm having to manually remove the quarantine file attribute via the terminal is order to "free" the application for use. Obviously, if TinkerTool is going to bypass the warning, the IT needs to remove the quarantine attribute from the application so that it will launch. I've seen this on at least four different apps I've downloaded.
Version 3.1.4 simply won't launch at all for me. Deleted all prefs, still nothing. I got some download errors with 3.1.3 but at least it launched. - 3.4Gz iMac i7 with 16GB RAM.
Version 2.0.1 seems to have broken the ability to make JPG snapshots. PNGs work fine, JPGs give error, 'VLC could not open the encoder." It's like the JPG library is missing or something. This seems like a rather simple thing to break in the context of all the things VLC can do. Hmmmm...
Whatever preset I select it does not change the output size. If I load a 1280 x720 movie and select the "iPhone Legacy" I should not get a movie that is still 1280 x720.
Is this compatible with iTunes 10.5? I upgraded iTunes (10.5) and MyTunes RSS (4.1.4) and now everything is broken. When I try to go to the admin URL I get...
"HTTP ERROR 500
Problem accessing /. Reason:
Bad version number in .class file"
It also tells me my license will expire in 30 days, like I've been reset back to demo mode.
Why does this installer install the script into the root Scripts folder (/Library/iTunes/Scripts) instead of the user's Scripts folder (/Users/(name)/Library/iTunes/Scripts)? Not good practice. iTunes wouldn't even recognize the script in this location. I had to manually move it into the iTunes Scripts folder at the user level in order for it to show up in the scripts menu. This installer looks like it still needs some tweaking.
Have owned this product for years and through various iPod models. Has always been at the top of it's class, but it looks like it's been abandoned. No updates in 18 months. I store/backup all my ripped music on my 80G iPod classic. I got a new Mac Mini and went to "restore" all my music to it. Podworks worked fine less the fact that the artwork didn't copy through for about 10% of my music (approx 800 tracks). I know it's there, I see it (embedded in tracks) on my computer at work and on the iPod itself. Somehow it's getting left behind/omitted in the transfer. Wish this app was still getting updated. Haven't found an alternative as good yet. Oh well, I guess the search continues.
Seems to has some serious problems pulling down artwork. A lot of tracks simply won't update/download artwork from iTunes or Amazon. The web interface looks kinds of broken with a bunch of missing artwork.
Seems like a handy little "extension." Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with PathFinder. It installs Automater workflows for 10.6 (Services) and a standard CMI for 10.5, but neither appear in the CM for PathFinder, which I find very strange because even in 10.6, Path Finder still "accepts" standard CM Items. Must be a bug somewhere.
Yeah, I tried restarting PathFinder and the Finder. Neither worked to "initialize" OneWay. I had to actually logout and log back in in order for the Finder to recognize the Automator workflows in the Services menu. I thought it was a bit strange.
