I installed Nicecast on a G3 330MHz tower running 10.2.8; I use the machine as a server and an MP3 jukebox. I simply could not tune Nicecast to deliver an acceptable level of performance over a 100MHz Ethernet network, using iTunes as my source. As a client, I was using iTunes on a G4 PB, running Panther. No matter how I set the server parameters for bandwidth, sampling rate, and cpu utilization, I could not get through a single song without the system stopping and having to re-buffer. Nicecast was the only server under any load. Nice idea, but it's not working, at least OMM.
