Olympus DSS Player

Plut0 reviewed on 12 Mar 2012
I updated my Macbook Pro to OS 10.7.3 and visited the Olympus site to download the latest, Lion-compatible, DSS player 7.2.8
It installed OK and would bring up and play all of my old recordings from my DS-2 recorder that were on my hard drive.
When I plugged the DS-2 into the USB port, the player program started but nothing else happened. No files on the recorder were displayed.

Google searches seem to indicate that older recorders, specifically any of the Olympus units that are in the "non-professional" category, are no longer supported.

My emails to Olympus have gone unanswered. I will never buy another Olympus recorder. I am now looking for a good unit from another manufacturer that supports standard recording formats that can be used with MacSpeech Scribe.

MacUpdate Desktop
Plut0 commented on 27 Oct 2010
I detest this constant updating that seizes 31 GB of virtual space on my laptop. I do not want to install an update the day (or even the week) it has been released.

I want an option to turn off this auto update, or tell me how to go back to the previous version.

AirRadar
Plut0 commented on 20 Oct 2010
I just purchased AirRadar 2 on the Mupromo.

The problem with these 24 hour bargain purchases is that they do not give you the opportunity to do the full trial before you have to pay.

Regrettably, I allowed AirRadar to install the "smart crash reporter" when I first ran the application on my Macbook Pro 13" 10.5.8 (all stock software).

For the first time ever, I had a total computer lockup on quitting AirRadar. No force quit of any application would work (Mail and Safari). Only a power-button restart would work.

The console log is filled with AirRadar entries on checking permissions,
10/20/10 12:13:28 AM [0x0-0x92092].com.koingosw.AirRadar[96886] [SCR] Owner is not root for /Library/InputManagers/Smart Crash Reports/Smart Crash Reports.bundle/Contents, it is 501.

10/20/10 12:13:28 AM [0x0-0x92092].com.koingosw.AirRadar[96886] [SCR] The current Smart Crash Reports installed does not have the proper permissions, so we are pretending it is a really old version at /Library/InputManagers/Smart Crash Reports (0)

10/20/10 12:13:28 AM [0x0-0x92092].com.koingosw.AirRadar[96886] [SCR] Result of currently installed SCR is 0x1

and this goes on and on..

How do I uninstall AirRadar and its nasty accessory and write off this hasty $10 purchase?

VirusBarrier X6
plut0 commented on 16 Dec 2008
Maybe there are few virus threats to the Mac right now but the thing that the community needs to realize is that they will come. When that time arrives, we need to have developers who are responsive to the community and have grown along with OS 10. I probably will not use the current Virus Barrier that I have bought in the MacUpdate package, but I do believe that I should be helping to support efforts like this for the future. I think all of us really need to look at the applications that we use and give some longer-term direction to the developers as to what works and what doesn't.

Personally, for a virus detector, I would like to see a fast, small-footprint bloodhound that receives network updates whenever there is spare bandwidth and digs around in my files looking for decay and danger. Perhaps it could also be indexing stuff, to be handed off to the operating system.
