Unfortunately CUPS-PDF is totally broken under Lion.

This AppStore update process is just rubbish. 18Gb for a few bug fixes. Also is the updating process stops downloading for some reason, AppStore Update restarts at the beginning!!! Apple, this is rubbish.

Don't know what youz guyz below are smoking but this software is good. Small, quick, single task, FREE, does the job with options to destroy files if necessary. It works well. My only issue is how secure are the encrypted files? Can they be broken easily. I need bullet proof because I don't trust lawyers or politicians. No documentation at all. Give this guy a break, I like his website!

@Ilgaz - suggest you download the driver and deldrv routines for your LiDE25 from
http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide25#DriversAndSoftware
and clear down one of your computers, install the current driver and try the 329027/28 system first.. Then try the 6490... Let use know what happens. Nicolasl has followed the same for his LiDE35 successfully.

Again for Odysseus - In a VERY risky move, I deleted all drivers associated with the Canon Scanners (and all other scanners!!) and started again. Vuescan 649023 althought previously operational, failed to operate, as expected. All versions from 649017 to 649027 didn't work, as expected. I reinstalled cstbosx5014ej4 then tried LiDE50_7134MXEN and then ScanGear CS 7.7 Eng_Installer. All failed to function. Even the CanoScanToolbox didn't recognise the scanner. Removed all those and downloaded lide35osx7721en.dmg from the US site and installed (clean), plugged in LiDE35 and it was recognised!. Fired up Vuescan 649027 - no luck, no driver found. Fired up 649023 and it works!! (Phew...) SO there is something in 649023 that has been changed since. I believe that the LiDE35 is similar to the LiDE50 and that the drivers are common, albeit with different names. Hope this helps!

Message for Odysseus - replied to your reply earlier - since then have retested 649015 through to 649019 and they all failed - 649023 works fine, Alas 649020 through to 649022 are probably in TimeMachine somewhere!! Interestingly, the Release Notes from Hamrick.com say - fixed Canon issues - in versions 9021 and Canon MG series in 90290, so I suspect 649021 and 649022 may also work BUT I can't find my copies to test! (I usually keep them all!). 649023 doesn't specifically mention Canon. As before I haven't installed the ScanGear bits from lide35osx7721en.dmg, only cstbosx5014ej4.dmg. (Should be 5 for value below but can't change in macupdate)

I spoke too soon and without due diligence... I am unable to see my Canon LiDE35 scanner with 649024, 649025 and 649026!! Only 649023 which is operating in 64bit mode. I'm unable to select the scanner in INPUT section, no SOURCE option in 24,25 or 26. 649026 says it found the scanner but no software (drivers)!!! Interesting!!

Brilliant, 649023 works brilliantly now with Canon LiDE35 - previously only 32bit version worked. Why can't macUpdate allow me to give this an overall rating above 4.5? Definitely 5 star. Seems faster in preview now as well.

Odysseus - I'm not really sure what has happened as I haven't really been following this issue and I will have reload Vuescan versions prior to 946023 to test. BUT 649023 through to 649026 are all working. I had reloaded the drivers several times previously and Apple has released a myriad of other updates so the various paths may have been altered. I am using 10.6.7 (but should have stayed with 10.6.6 as there are issues with OpenType and Preview) and the CanoScan Toolkit 5.0.1.4 from cstbosx5014ej4.dmg. Looking at Activity Monitor, it too says that Vuescan 649023 is running in 64bit mode. I will reload a few early versions later today and test. I have removed Canon's Scangear package. Cheers.

AHHH, At last, a bug in this BRILLIANT software. So pleased with myself!! (Sorry). My olde PPC machine died so my nice new iMac-i7-870 is now on the desk alongside the ancient slow Canon LiDE35 scanner. Recovered drivers from Canon thanks to the hint from Vuescan (lide35osx7721en) and installed. Also installed Vuescan 649016... didn't work. Installed Vuescan 329016 and it (finally) DID work. (Tested driver functionality with Vuescan 8.6.66, an old reliable version used in the past). Thus the Canon drivers for the LiDE are almost certainly 32bit and won't talk to the 64 bit version of Vuescan!! To all others, Vuescan is just THE BEST scanning software. Moved the display font size back to 12.

CUPS-PDF
Phoenixdownunder had trouble on 05 Feb 2012
Actually there is a solution using the 2.6.1B cups-pdf development version in macPorts. To install, the following rather esoteric procedure is necessary. Install Xcode. Download and and install macPorts. In Terminal, run sudo port -v self update, then sudo port install cups-pdf. Then attempt to create the new printer as per usual. Print a short document to cups-pdf and it will disappear. Thats fine. It will be sitting in /opt/local/var/spool/cups-pdf/username. IN FINDER, type command-shift G and type in /opt/local/var/spool/cups-pdf, make an alias of the USERNAME folder and drag that to your desktop/Dock/Home directory for future reference. I found it convenient to rename the alias to cups-pdf. Please note that this SEEMS to work for Lion and Lion Server 10.7.2 and 10.7.3 but remains totally beta and untested elsewhere. This was our solution for a Company dependent on cups-pdf. Not needed for Snow Leopard. Note that this is cups-pdf not cups.

Won't update either directly or through the AppStore. Originally installed from disk iLife11 and now wants an account. iCloud/AppleID/whatever won't work. All wrong.
