Hands Off!
Philosopherdog commented on 10 Jan 2012
I'm finding it's not working with iCloud and the developer is not responding to repeated requests for support. If I continue to get radio silence I'll write a review to this effect. For me it's not working with iCloud at the moment. So think twice if you're on lion and using iCloud until this is cleared up.

Logitech Control Center

Logitech doesn't care about customers. Their driver has never worked.

Ejector

Philosopherdog reviewed on 19 Sep 2011
Many thanx to the developer. This little app adds the much needed ability to eject all external devices in one shot. You can do it via terminal, but ejecting via a hotkey is a great solution. Now I can quickly eject all external devices before sleeping my machine to take on the road. Thanx

Parallels Desktop

Philosopherdog reviewed on 10 Sep 2011
I compared it to vmware and I think Parallels 7 is way snappier and generally better thought out and more up to date. I know some folks complain about the lack of customer care and the steep upgrade prices, but at least the are updating their product. Vmware development is pretty damn slow. I couldn't get vmware tools to properly install and support wasn't all that amazing. Anyhow, Parallels 7 flys.

Hands Off!

Was using Little Snitch forever, but Hands Off has a more robust feature set and has been rock solid so far. A must have app for any serious Mac user.

1Password

Philosopherdog reviewed on 02 Sep 2011
Extremely disappointed with this app lately. After entrusting all of my data to this app I'm left with something that hasn't been functioning since Safari 5.1. I downgraded Safari but still shortcuts are not working and I constantly go to sites which I have saved logins which are no longer detected. Updates, and there have been many, have not addressed many of these issues. Wow you just can't have this happening with all your passwords and data! I wouldn't install this at the moment. Figure out an alternative solution.

brenty,
Thanx. I appreciate the concern. Given the level of problems I've decided to switch over to lastpass and give that a try. Looks pretty cool with great cross platform compatibility, synching baked in, and a huge user base. I'll keep my eye on 1password of course but I'm finding the hassles with it for the past few months have solidified the fact that this is not reliable enough for my needs in its current state. I realize there are complications with multiple versions of Firefox, Chrome, Safari and the release of Lion all happening at once for a small company. I sympathize, but I'm an experience computer user who shouldn't have to be on the blower with tech support to get my password manager to work.

OnyX

Philosopherdog reviewed on 01 Sep 2011
Been using it for a while. Today it solved a huge problem for me. I had deleted my timemachine backup which got moved to my trash folder. Clearing the trash was taking forever and causing errors. I tried some of the solutions floating around including terminal commands. Eventually I just used Onyx and a couple of hours later it solved the issue. Brilliant app.

Cog

Solid, minimal player. I've always loved players that open a file browser to navigate on the left panel. The only thing I noticed is when the player is in its minimal state the shortcut keys don't work. I'll try downloading the nightly to see if that helps. Thanx to the developer.

I can't get Quick Look to work with content searches. Any idea how to solve this? I'm on 10.6.4 . Quick Look seems to be otherwise working in finder and even DevonThink.
