Proteron's site is back online with the old download available. They also have the following message:
"After approximately two years of unavailability, we are preparing to re-commit our efforts to the prompt service and attention that have been the mark of the Proteron experience."
I'm looking forward to updated versions of this essential piece of software. It's been a little buggy for me under the more recent versions of 10.5. While Apple did swipe the default look of LiteSwitch, they did not duplicate the functionality and flexibility of this tool and I'd really like to make use of it again.
I have version 1. I like it well enough, but the Amazon integration is intrusive. After playing with version 2, I feel that aspect is even more intrusive. Please give me an option to turn off the reviews and recommendations. If I want this stuff, I'll open a browser and point it toward Amazon myself. This is not a value add to me and slows down the application. At least in version 1 the recommendations allowed me to add an item into the library if I had it already, or bought it. In version 2, it seems it's just an advertisement for Amazon. If I pay for an app, I expect no advertisements in it.
The auto entry into the synopsis is not editable, apparently. Why? I can add my own synopsis, sure, but it does not override the other stuff, which I find of little use. The Synopsis field also does not allow me to enter multiple paragraphs. Again, why?
With all the features, bells and whistles this application offers, is it so hard to allow me to put my own information only in here? I don't care about the Amazon.com reviews, or their product description. Please give me the option to remove these and then I'll consider an upgrade.
I'll have to add my Ditto to the rest of the critiques below. I jumped on board with Scivener Gold then transitioned throughout the open beta program. It's met all my needs so far: stable, quick, flexible and aesthetically appealing.
Scrivener has several features that I never thought would be useful to me until I actually used them. The corkboard and outline features, and the Edit Scrivenings feature. The Snapshots feature was a requirement for me. I like to have built in version control. Rich Text and the Multi Markdown option is a bonus.
