This is possibly the most important addition to the Mac platform this year. This makes releasing games for the Mac platform much easier and most importantly, it acknowledges the Mac as a serious gaming platform in that valve makes the complete steam tools available and also port all their own games natively to the mac.
I think this is the best anti-malware for Mac. Yeah sure, there are no known viruses for Mac yet, but there are trojans and you could pass along Windows viruses via files in mail etc.
That is why I run malware (anti-virus, anti-phising etc.) still on the Mac, we don't need to make it harder on people, even if they choose differently (or it is chosen for them).
Does it use CPU and memory? Yes, sure. But to my simple comparisons with the different Anti-malware for Mac (And Windows) it is generally good behaved. X5 was very solid and seldom took much of the resources, I hope X6 is as stable or more than X5, only time will tell.
The feature set of X6 is absolutely spot on, here you have all you need to secure your machine. You have protection against Viruses (Mac (still none, I know), Windows, Linux, Mac OS 9, Phising, Trojans, Spyware like keyloggers and a in and outgoing firewall filtering.
Ease of use: Absolutely Mactastic. This is the only anti-malware program for Mac that feels and behave like Mac applications should. Easy settings and access for everything. The only thing I miss is a explanations panel that details settings, found threats etc.
Value: Sure there are ClamAV that is free, but that is not comparable. The only comparable is Norton Antivirus and Norton Firewall, and that one is still not a very good Mac application (IMHO) and Norton AV/FW costs about $130.
Stability has to be proven, X5 was solid. X5 had some problems when Snow Leopard came out with processes that wen't wild and ate up all your CPU, but that was duly fixed. Hopefully X6 will be as stable as X5 is (Yes X5 works on Snow Leopard).
I agree that people that have renewed subscriptions for X5 for a long time should get some benefit when they released X6. Even if it is stated that the subscription is for the version you subscribe to (as it always, to my knowledge, have been with Intego products) But the price is still about half of what it was.
Personally I have paid for the upgrade as there aren't any other manufacturers of anti-malware I currently trust more that Intego, so make up your own mind.
An afterthought:
I still think Intego is a good company and they get a lot of unnecessary heat from narrow minded people that think they can see the complete world and that everyone should think like them, or they are idiots. I really don't like this kind of behavior, a good thing to think about before flaming others are the old Apple slogan : Think Different! We are all different and we all have at least two different opinions on every subject that interests us, and that is what (IMHO) makes humans so great.
Brilliant. This works painlessly and elegantly.
Take your old DOS games or applications and just drag them into the coverflow viewer and it installs, have very few problems with it.
I donated shortly after playing around with it. Highly recommended.
Great app, but already a paid for upgrade? I have earlier bought two licences for this one. I will not be looking at this if they don`t start doing business in a sensible manner. I have uninstalled version 4 as it doesn`t work properly in Leopard, to many strange things happening. This was really money down the drain, I won`t send any more down this drain. Hopefully they will change their policies and also treat their existing customers better.
This is another example of calling your users/customers thieves. You are required to enter your hardware id to get the program to work. I will never buy software that binds to hardware like this or require activation. To bad since the software seems quite ok.
