I always wait with reviews until I have used an application for a longer time, but now it's time to praise.
Over many years I had collected thousands upon thousands files in countless folders with subfolders many levels deep, all things mixed - pure chaos. Maybe it was just that the time in my life was right, but DtPO was the first programm that really made it easy to clean up this horrible mess I made. I often tried, but with DtPO's smart groups showing duplicates and it's many different view options doing so was so effective that it was almost fun to.
Since then - almost 2 years ago - this extremely feature rich and powerful thing has helped me to stay organized and get productive on a level I always dreamed of.
I get tons of technical documents and have to deal with massive email communication with suppliers and customers and have to have all this files and emails available and at hand in every moment of my business in my shop as well as on the go when visiting customers at home (with Dt To Go on my iPhone) - and ideally in one place.
DtPO made this possible and changed they way I work: With scripts from DEVONtechnologies and rules in Apple Mail I directly file all my email in the moment it arrives to DtPO, it gets filed automatically to different folders (groups in DtPO) and I read from different smart groups there from where I flag or label or set tags, directly answer or delete it. Some of those I send to OmniFocus as a To Do, the script to do so is part of the many helpful scripts that come with DtPO to work with other applications.
At present I have 5 databases totaling 8 GB and - including the startup of the programm - DtPO opens them all in less than 13 seconds and this is on a 4 GB Intel iMac from 2007. This things is fast and stable and absolutely reliable from what I can say and should there be a problem against all expectations: DtPO keeps all imported files in their original format and they are all available in the Finder. (You can index them alternatively.)
And I want to leave big thanks to Eric Böhnisch-Volkmann and Christian Grunenberg from DEVONtechnologies that kindly supported me on my special needs with competence and passion - directly as well as on their user forums, which is a great place to get help and inspiration. These are great folks and they listen to their community and constantly improve DtPO. Outstanding product!
I am registered to SpamSieve since 2005 and have never looked any further. It's statistics shows me an accuracy of 99,3% correctly filtered spam, which is absolutely wow.
After 7 years of smooth integration in three email-clients I cannot speak good enough about this world-class supported app and it's developer, who supported me with countless free updates and improvements over all these years and was instantly there, when I had a question once. I seldom got so much for my money.
What I simply love about SpamSieve is that it can notifiy me about new mail, which means, that I can only notice new "good" mail. So often I sat here and my email clients showed me new messages and I switched to them only to find that it was just spam. Very annoying and no issue anymore when Spam Sieve takes over.
Thank you Mr. Tsai!
Makes me happy to see updates on Camino.
It's such an elegant, nice and lightweight and fast browser - my favorite choice since way back in 2002 when it started as Chimera. Wow, more than 9 years! This thing accompanies me almost almost as long as I'm on OSX. I just want to say a real big thank you to the developers who keep this juwel alive.
I am registered to this application since August 2004 and through all the years on any OS X version on any of my Macs Synchronize Pro X has been a stable workhorse. And it still is.
It is fast, it is absolutely reliable and very powerful! I love the many options, e.g. SPX lets me start scripts that closes different databases before the back up begins and that opens them again, when SPX has finished ... or that it starts a back up when a folder changes.
I have different scheduled back ups for different purposes and content, some running every two hours, some scheduled weekly and also I made bootable system clones all the years. I have never experienced any failures or problems when I needed those clones or back ups.
Over the many years I contacted Hugh Sontag four or five times. He always replied literally instantly with great help, always competent and kind. Half a year ago I was trying to figure out the best way for a complex yet flexible back up strategy for a friend of mine and asked Mr. Sontag if my concept could work and received great help and much input from him.
There are many competing apps to this product, many somewhat more popular-priced. At the time I registered to SPX I tested many and found none to be as powerful. Since then I never cared for other apps as SPX just does it perfectly for me and I simply totally trust this app.
Still my favored email client. I just love how fast it start's - boom and it's there -, how fast it executes my many pop-accounts and I especially like the great search engine.
The attachments are stored external and not within the database. Though I agree, that the database limit of 2gb can be a limitation, I see myself not approaching that limit for the next ten years with 9 years of email already behind me.
Databases need mantaining and I cannot follow the complaints here. I have supported users of Apple Mail and Entourage for years and to me PowerMail is the one app I trust the most, when I think back about database problems I worked on. I never had problems with PowerMail, this app runs not only very fast but also absolute stable here for years.
I wish, CTM support were more active. They are there somehow and they show up, when problems arise (seldom enough), but there is more to support than only putting out fires. And there could be so much more to PowerMail, than 'only' maintaining the app, but thanks for keeping it alive anyway. But I so much wish CTM would make PowerMail a more modern and competing app. They just need to listen to their user base here and on their discussions a little bit more.
I'm using Fetch for 10 years now almost daily and it has never let me down. On two occasions over the years I had questions and Jim Matthews was always there to help me the same day. I can see here and on the board at fetchsoftworks that their support is as great and active as it ever was.
I paid a small upgrade price (I only remember it was small) 2005 for Fetch5 and 10 dollars last year for Fetch5.5. Their pricing is just so fair and moderate.
If Fetch meets your needs and you are looking for a rock solid client with outstanding support give it a try.
And thanks for the droplets, I love the droplets.
