Gimp

MuchMac reviewed on 10 May 2012
As a regular but casual user of GIMP 2.6.x, my early impressions of 2.8 are positive. Compared to 2.6.x, it seems to load and run faster on my standard config 2011 i5 iMac.

The OS X install loads with the darker "pro" theme which I immediately changed back to the lighter "default" theme. I also immediately noticed the uglification of the tool options UI which is no less usable, just less visually attractive imo. For the way I work, I was not wishing for a single-window mode, but I am trying it out with mixed early impressions.

GIMP will probably continue to be something less than my ideal concept of an image editor, but I will continue to use it because it is FREE software that is relatively powerful and much more than reasonably useful for my purposes, as well as being open source, and cross-platform. Nice plugins bundled in the Mac download too.

Sincere thanks to the GIMP development team and the GIMP on Mac OS X developer for this release!

Library Books

MuchMac reviewed on 11 Jan 2011
This is an excellent FREE program. Now that one of my two requested libraries is set-up for it, I am using this software daily and appreciating how it helps me monitor my loans and requests.

All I can reasonably wish for is support for the other library that I use. Many thanks to the developer!

MenuEverywhere

MuchMac reviewed on 04 Jan 2011
So nice to have menu's on my second monitor. This software gives you a lot of options for how you can do that. I recommend watching the screencast on the developer's web site if you want a better sense of everything that this utility can do.

There were enough options that it took me three or four minutes of informed trial-and-error to get it configured to behave the way I wanted it to work, but it was worth the time and effort.

Hard to comment and rate for stability because this is a recent download. No issues so far and I like that the developer says that this is coded without hacks.

Cyberduck

Only love here for CD. Free if not perfect. Good enough for casual FTP and probably more.
