I have given up on this app - I appreciate the developer's efforts but he seems to have a lot of difficulty parsing text and matching it to the thetvdb.com's search and XML interface. That is what this app is all about is text parsing.
I don't really intend to slam the author, because he's at least banging out code and trying while I have taken the path of being a software user and no longer develop.. But I think he needs to rethink the design of this app.
I think the trouble comes in with trying to pass command line parameters for shows around from a controller app to helper apps..
Perhaps too much dependence upon third party perl modules that don't work exactly like is needed for parsing - when i was taking CS courses I spent most of a year just learning how to tear text lines apart and parse them for information in Pascal and C usually.
Compared to those two languages, Perl is a breeze for doing text parsing - it's what the language was designed for.
I have been using iFlicks, which is quite incredible at pulling names and season/episode numbers out of file names without having to format them perfectly and remove spurious punctuation. If it does not get a hit, you can manually edit the fields to show name, episode# and season# and let it search again from your input and if thetvdb.com or imdb has it in their databases it finds it and pulls artwork every time.
iDentify is 100% hit or miss, and continues on writing the output file when it cannot find data for a file.. It has trouble with shows that have numbers in the series name.
I truly did want this app to work out and show financial support. But from his comments on his wordpress blog, i feel he's not truly in charge of things and needs to step back and rethink how it should work.
Instead I've purchased an app that has it all together now. But I really wish the author success at pulling this program together.
The Aperture version of this (and all other aperture plugins for that matter) will be a lot more useful when the day comes that Apple allows you to run plugins non destructively instead of this malarky with just allowing export filters. Not tiffen's fault of course.
Until then I am going to use the photoshop version and make a round trip through photoshop. At least there I can layer effects and have something I can return to for editing..
It's funny (to me) I've been using Skitch beta since fairly early on when beta invites were pretty difficult to get. Very rarely do I get an app like this where I am actually looking forward to the developer going to a release version so I can pay them money for it..
This one I am - within minutes of getting the notification that they're selling it, my credit card is coming out. I use this app countless times per day to do quick snaps of designs to post to people I work with or customers for input or snap quick shots of web articles/photos to send to someone via IM.. it is one of those apps that I just won't do without now..
I really want to like this app. But it's just not ready for prime time. I even own a license for it but I'm back to xchat aqua for the foreseeable future..
1.x is good, I see nothing compelling about the 2.0 release to make me say "WOW this is worth paying again!" This is more like a 1.2 release than 2.0. No Sale.
They have kind of alienated me with this paid 3.6 update. I'm a relatively new user. Yes I bought it through MacZot. I had been checking the app out for a while but was sitting on the fence over buying it. I did jump on it when it was discounted through the maczot website - then proceeded to buy more stuff from their web store..
I kind of feel like they were wringing the last money they could out of 3.5 before releasing 3.6 and do not really value me as a customer. I've read conflicting upgrade policies - the head guy made a post that anyone within 3 months is covered for a free upgrade then stated in his blog that April 1st is the cutoff and that sadly, maczot sales do not qualify for free upgrades. Only full price purchasers.
Then the icing on top is that shortly after discounting it via maczot, they were actually giving away licenses to Macuser readers.
Fair? I suppose they don't really owe me anything - I got exactly what I paid for - a license for V3.5.1.
That cuts both ways, I don't owe them anything - an upgrade fee or loyalty as a customer and positive word of mouth..
Not a very good customer relations move.

While v3 certainly does that, feature creep has priced it way out of the price range I'm comfortable paying.
How about a lite version?
