Am I missing something here? This feature is already available in Mac OS X, since version 10.2.
Open Keychain Access, choose "Preferences…" from the Keychain Access menu and then enable "Show keychain status in menu bar". A black keychain appears with a "Lock Screen" command inside.
Or you can either press Control+Shift+Eject, as alredy mentioned.
This application is almost perfect! I'm running it on an iMac Late 2006 and even thought it advised me that my machine is not officially supported, I can change the fan speed of my three fans when I want.
I mainly use it to clean them: the first time I set my fans to the maximum speed, a black cloud came out from the rear of my Mac!
Something to be improved? I think that the application may be rewritten with Ease of Use in mind. The first time you open the application, nothing is explained and you have to learn everything by clicking randomly on menus and buttons. A more simple GUI would be appreciated.
