For me this upgrade is a disaster because the vertical list view no longer displays the tags I use to track my emails, and this was the feature that attracted me to this app in the first place. I have had to reinstall the previous version, and that's the first time I've ever done that.
The app store upgrade requires you to quit the app. There is no obvious way to do this, short of deselecting launch on login in preferences and then rebooting the computer. Meanwhile you have to work out a way to exit the app store in mid-process... what a cock-up.
Ah, but what if you've deselected the menu bar item so as not to clutter up your menu bar? The quit option should be present in the preferences, as it is in most applications I believe.
Proper support for this app is non-existent. No email support is available.
I feel severely short-changed since this is an expensive piece of software (presumably because there's no competition) and there isn't even a trial version. Bought it nevertheless in order to recover some old Ami files, worked fine. But just tried to convert an old mbx file and it got stuck half way. The technical support on the subject is useless, so I guess you're skewered when something doesn't work properly.
Yojimbo has just got much better, finally catching up with Together in its use of the drop dock. But there are still some improvements to be made.
1. The most important. A feature which all Mac text programmes should have but sadly don't, and that is a Bean-like slider (or equivalent) to enable quick zooming of the text without changing the font size. The fact is, if you work on a 24" screen, then the standard 12pt is often too small to read without squinting.
2. When right-clicking on the item list, the last item is 'View with' but only gives the option of using TextEdit. How can this be changed? One should really be able to choose...
3. The Drop Dock should include 'Quick Entry' (preferably at the top). Would then be the quickest way for mouse-users to do this.
4. It would tremendously useful if the Collections list and the Items list could be made collapsible, independently of each other (as in MacJournal).
5. It would also be useful to provide a better selection of icons to place on the tool bar, (whatever the Mac guidelines are for this).
This would probably be the best dedicated writer's tool out there except for one fatal flaw: it isn't WYSIWYG. What appeals about the programme is its project-based approach, with its ability to hold different documents together in the project and notes tied to the document. But the idea not to use standard rich text editing but tagged styles which then translate into appropriate formatting when exported is a bore. All those inserted tags and highlights actually interrupt one's reading over the text, whereas experienced writers (this one has several books and numerous articles to his credit, as well as innumerable documents for students etc.) have long learned to use formatting and layout properly as they write (like italicising titles of books or films, or making indented lists) which cannot be done effectively here. I suspect this is aimed at would-be writers, not real ones. Would be nice if the authors produced a rich text version of the programme - they might call it 'Dubliners' (or even 'Finnegans Wake').
