Paste Master

Memphisbird reviewed on 11 Dec 2011
A clipboard utility is a very personal tool that needs to fit seamlessly into your daily workflow. After my last clipboard app went by the wayside due to lack of development, I started a time consuming and often disappointing search for a new clipboard app. I even bought a couple of them, thinking each time, “This is the one.” It wasn’t.

I have been using Paste Master now for a couple of months and for my needs, it comes damned close to being perfect. There are so many useful ways to paste things, e.g., phone numbers and serial numbers that are divided into form fields, so you can’t normally paste the whole thing, pasting in an address — a thing of beauty.

The developer is very responsive to feature requests. If you ask for something, he might ask you how you would use it or what you want the end result to be, and if it’s good, he’s right on it. I like to keep my clipboard open most of the time, in a narrow column down the right side of my 27 inch monitor. I can do that with Paste Master and it’s out of the way. When it’s in the way, a quick shortcut hides it.

This latest update has added support for URL shortening. Now, it’s right there in this utility that I use every day, all day. Every update shaves a little more time off my workflow.

Paste Master is a really good app that is constantly being improved upon. It is more than worth its minuscule $8 price tag. I wish I had the money back that I’d paid for the other clipboard apps I’ve bought. I’d give it to this developer.

I would have contacted the developer directly, but I don't see any way to do that on the website, except for the forum that is filled with spam. I tried to install the latest update and it tells me there is "no valid iPhoto version on this system." Additionally, the modification date on the downloaded 1.5.3 installer says March 29, 2009. Is it really an update? Do I have the correct file? Do I even need this update? My current version is working just fine.

Goldfish Standard
Memphisbird commented on 30 Sep 2009
I see that one of the features of Goldfish 3 Pro is "Personal e-mail support from Fishbeam." Really? I hope so, for the developer's sake, because, as stated below, support has been nonexistent for ... well, forever. I have used this app since Version 1 and never got a response to an email, and the forum had a lot of people asking questions, but no one getting answers. That's too bad, too, because this is a good app with great potential. Kind of a big jump from 2.3 to a paid upgrade for 3.0, though, especially when there have been hardly any updates. Oh, well [sigh], off I go to give 3.0 a whirl.

Savvy Clipboard
memphisbird commented on 13 Sep 2009
This app is not updated very often, but I don't suppose it needs to be. I still use it every single day and have established a very streamlined working relationship with it. I don't want to use any other clipboard app (I have tried most of them already), but I'm wondering about Snow Leopard support. Says nothing about it on the developer's website, and it's not listed at the Snow Leopard compatibility wiki. I'm holding off installing Snow Leopard till I know my apps are all going to work. I just wonder if I need to be demoing other clipboard apps again.

Yojimbo
memphisbird commented on 01 Sep 2009
I think they may get new people to buy Yojimbo, but those of us who bought it when it first came out and waited soooo long for any updates have probably moved on and are one to two years into another application. There's no way I would go back to Yojimbo now, even if it does have a lot of new features. Is that list of new features enough to last us another two years? Doubt it. It barely brings it up to current standards. They should have made it a free update so that those of us who put stock into this great new application back in 2006 might be tempted to give it another look. Not for $20, though. I'm not interested.

iSale
memphisbird commented on 30 Apr 2009
I just got the MacUpdate email telling me iSale has been updated, and when I click the download link, I can't start the download unless I put in my email address, so they can send me an invitation to get their newsletter. What? No! Even if I want the newsletter, I shouldn't be forced to give my email address in order to download the application. Since I already own it, I can update from within the application itself, but I like to keep the .dmg files, and I have to give my email address to get it. I'm not sure that's a very good practice.

Auction Hunter

memphisbird reviewed on 22 Feb 2009
I have been using Auction Hunter since it was in beta, and I have never had any problems with sniping. In fact, it works so well that I have bought tons of things I don't even need! I even have it set at 3 seconds and it has always worked for me. I've never had an issue with it locking up my Mac, and I can freely move my categories, auctions around without issue. In fact, I have all the auctions I've ever bid on or listed still stored in Auction Hunter. I also tried Jbidwatcher and a couple of others when I first started looking for auction applications, but I liked Auction Hunter the best and I decided to go ahead and buy it when it came out of beta. All applications have some bugs to be worked out, and it is important to note how quickly and effectively a developer responds. It sounds to me like this developer is trying hard to help you, JBSSM, but you don't seem to want it. I think you should take the kindly offered refund and go buy yourself something on Ebay that will improve your disposition -- with Jbidwatcher, of course.

Savvy Clipboard

memphisbird reviewed on 11 Oct 2008
I bought Savvy Clipboard in March 2008 and I use it every day, and I love it. But, I could love it even more if it included a couple more features. When I bought it, I mentioned these to the developer, and he said they were definitely planning on adding one in the future, and he would think about adding the other. Well, there have been two updates since then and I'm disappointed that the most important feature (to me) hasn't been added yet, and that is: strip the carrots, forced returns, junk from emails when copying and pasting. I'm constantly copying from emails and pasting, and as a result, I still need to open SmartWrap, which I also really like. Please, PLEASE work on adding this feature!

This is the other feature I think is important and would like to have added: Be able to double click all entries for a default action. Text should open for editing, URLs should open in browser, emails should open a blank email, images should open in a predefined image editor, etc. If you want to actually edit/change/update any of the entries, THEN right-click or control click what you want to do with them, but there should be a default for double clicking so you can do everything more quickly.

If these two features were added, I believe Savvy Clipboard would be perfect for my needs. It is easy and convenient to use. You can copy, copy, copy, copy and then paste, paste, paste, paste -- all so quickly. Sure beats copying in one window and switching to paste, then copying and switching and pasting ... ugh. Copy and paste text, images, emails, passwords; print them; save them; edit them, spellcheck them! Like I say, it's almost perfect. Two more features and my four stars go to five.

Sally\'s Salon

Fun game if you like a lot of repetitive action, and my kids do. Unfortunately, we only got to use it a short time, because we upgraded to Leopard and now the game is not compatible. Leopard has been out for almost a year now. Why hasn't this game been updated yet? I guess I need to be more careful where I buy games.

ImageWell
memphisbird commented on 24 Apr 2008
ImageWell needs a timed screen capture. I use ImageWell all the time and like it a lot, but I still have to fire up another application to get a timed screen capture. Sometimes I need to show a pop-up menu or something that happens only when you mouse over something. I'd like to be able to do that in ImageWell, especially since it's almost always open on my computer.

Magic Mail Folder
memphisbird had trouble on 10 Aug 2009
I installed MMF and could not get it to work for me. I uninstalled it, or attempted to, but it seems it's still trying to launch and not finding files. I get this message: "(MMF.command[34457]) posix_spawn("/Users/Shared/Launch_MMF_Daemon/MMF.command", ...): No such file or directory" It is repeated over and over in my console log. What do I need to do to stop this?

To answer my own question, I read the Read Me file. Duh. I reinstalled the app, pressed the stop button, then deleted the app and the MMF file from ~/Library/LaunchAgents/. Rebooted, and now the message is gone.

Saft
memphisbird had trouble on 23 Mar 2008
I bought Saft on March 7 on a MacUpdate Promo. Since then, there have been two updates -- which is good -- and I haven't been able to download either of them -- which is bad -- because the download code I was sent by the developer isn't working. Two emails to developer requesting help have garnered no response. I thought I was getting a good deal for $5.99 on the promo, but it's not a good deal if I get nothing for it. I think I'll take my $5.99 back, please, and donate it to the SafariStand people.

I don't have any download managers on my computer, and it's not the actual download that is the problem. I can't even get that far. It's the page where you download the full version, where you have to enter your email address and your eSellerate Order Number/PayPal Transaction ID. I don't have an eSellerate Order number or a PayPal Transaction ID because I bought it right here at MacUpdate. I was sent an email from the developer with a download code, and when I enter that code, it tells me "Login Failed Account cannot be found. Please verify your email. Also PayPal payment can be in pending state!" I even tried the invoice number from MacUpdate and got the same message. I don't know what other number I'm supposed to put in there, but the ones I have don't work. And still no response from the developer. I'm beginning to feel invisible.
