calibre

It looks horrible, but it does the job. on a positive note it does have a CLI so if you're inclined, it can be scripted to do what you want, without you having to navigate the interface!

Sure Cuts A Lot

Mark G reviewed on 19 Feb 2011
Let's get to the point, shall we. This software is aimed at the people that use the Provocraft Cricut machine. It isn't some piece of advertising material. It does not insist you buy a "non product for a non market". If you don't like it DON'T BUY IT!

My wife has a Cricut. She makes cards for all our daughter's friends. She runs craft events at church and other groups. We also had a time that we needed hundreds of circles for an activity at school. Yeah, scissors would do, but then again a pencil could do what most people use a computer for!

Rant over, on to the software. All the "stencils" for the cricut are cartridge based. These can be over-priced, and often don't have what you require. That's where this software comes in. Take fonts or SVG images, plug it in and cut them. We have Phineas and Ferb on my daughter's bedroom door due to this approach. Think of it like a jailbreak for the cutter (... people don't slate redsn0w because of the price of the iPhone!)

VirusBarrier X6
Mark G commented on 16 Sep 2010
I'm starting to regret Intego's decision to bundle NetBarrier into VirusBarrier. Now my computer scrolls to a crawl and Activity Monitor shows numerous "virusbarrier" entries eating up hundreds MB of memory.

When the subscription ends I may go looking for another Firewall add on

Anime Studio Pro
Mark G commented on 13 Jun 2010
A little off topic but we need some quality control here!
The title is for Anime Studio 7
The screenshot shows version six
Some of the text is for version 5!

How can I trust software at this price when the blurb is still in beta?

Microsoft Office 2008
Mark G commented on 09 Mar 2010
I'm getting too many incompatibilities between Word on the PC and this version. I have pictures that cram themselves into a quarter of the space but are fine in 2007. This is the last version of Office for the Mac that I will buy - I only really use it for work anyway. In future I will run the (ugly) Windows versions under Parallels or Crossover

It was (almost) fun while it lasted

Planbook
Mark G commented on 08 Sep 2008
A fantastic app! I am almost looking forward to planning lessons for the new year.
This app is regularly updated and the developer responds to several questions a day via the Yahoo group set up for this, despite being a practicing teacher himself
Recommended (as Apple did too!)
