Apple Mac OS X
Mactechhead commented on 10 Nov 2010
Is this supposed to be some kind of a joke? I'm not paying to upgrade from 10.6.4 to 10.6.5. 10.6.2 came free with my computer when I purchased my Mac.

The only 2 options listed currently on this page are Purchase Online! or Visit Developer's Site links.

I don't auto-update and never will again. Had my joys with that wreaking havoc enough times thank you very much.

And get a sense of humour people. I know it's free and always was. I'm not a Mac tech. because I won my certification in a bingo raffle. MacUpdate admins shouldn't be pre-maturely announcing updates until it is fully ready was the point I tried to make.

MacPorts
Mactechhead commented on 08 Nov 2010
An uninstaller for MacPorts would be a welcome idea. I installed this once before and found no easy way to get rid of it after it scattered thousands of files onto my HD.

I have no complaints about MacPorts since it helped me get the task done but I only needed it for the one use and had no way to get rid of it once I was finished with it. I was left with only one choice to re-install 10.6 again.

So please consider making an uninstaller.

Incognito Safari Extension

Although I opted to use my hosts file to do this already I will still give this 5 stars for the effort and for helping the world understand how terrible google is.

Great job!

SIMBL

Mactechhead reviewed on 12 Oct 2010
I am completely amazed how this even managed to get a 4 star rating.

Not only is this system hack an unstable steaming pile of **** but it should also be an embarrassment to the developer.

Nothing but crashes and every time software that relies on this gets updated it breaks.

I really like the new minimalistic color theme. It looks clean professional.

I do have one suggestion. 64 bit Mac support. I believe this would drastically improve the performance on the last Macs with larger archives and compression.

Thank you for all the nice changes and fast work.

That was a quick fix. Works a treat now and no more crashes on launch.

Thank you!

P.s. A nice blue-steel theme might look nicer than the purple theme. Just my 2cnts.

Clusters
Mactechhead commented on 21 Aug 2010
I received a free license for Squeeze a few months ago. I think the idea is great and tested it it's proof of concept and had good results.

But to be brutally honest I removed Squeeze immediately after my tests. I do not like the implementation.

I would prefer a straight forward application I can drag and drop files or folders onto to Squeeze instead. I would also like to have the compression level pre-set to my likings and if I chose to hold down the OPTION key during a drag and drop operation then I could temporarily change the settings or compression level for that one time.

LateNiteSoft I hope you read my suggestion and take it to heart because I would gladly pay for an application with such capabilities as I described above.

Adobe Flash Player

Mactechhead reviewed on 17 Aug 2010
Time put this garbage out to pasture.

Still a memory pig and still spiking CPU usage into the 95%.

This claims to use the new GPU technology from my iMac 10.1 with Nvidia GeForce 9400 for faster speeds and less CPU overhead. So why is this version slower than 10.01?

The only thing Flash is good for is to block it with ClickFlash and reclaim out CPUs from this POS

Eon

How is this allowed, GossTech has an application called Eon and is in the same genre?

Is this legal, is this ethical and why cause people confusion?

GossTech's Eon was published first - http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/30255/eon

Change the name to something else you newby developer!

Crashes on launch with 10.6.4. I tried deleting com.bitpersecond.sArchiver.plist to see if that would help but it still crashes on launch.

Narrowed the bug down to the auto-update option.

If auto-update checkbox is on then sArchiver 2.7.4 just crashes for me.

If I use an older version and turn the to auto-update checkbox off then version 2.7.4 launches nicely.

Please fix this.

Suitcase Fusion 4
Mactechhead had trouble on 31 Aug 2010
1403 is a complete and utter failure.

Installer fails every time. I have never installed this tool before. I used Pacifist to extract the application.

When I try to use demo it tells me that the FMCore is incompatible. WTF? Suitcase Fusion installed it and why is it installing an incompatible version!!

Mac OS X 10.6.4 with all the latest Apple updates.

Where to do we find 2.0.2 ?

Cocktail
MacTechHead had trouble on 10 Sep 2009
Is this new version of Cocktail for Snow Leopard only for 64-bit Mac's running 10.6?

I started up from 10.6 and when I tried to launch Cocktail 4.5 I was given an error saying "Cocktail cannot be launched from this Mac because it's not compatible" or something alone those lines.

This would be a shame if the developer is doing this intentionally.

Rember
MacTechHead had trouble on 01 Sep 2009
Previous version and this newest version seem to be buggy. I no longer see my ram slots or visual info like it used to do before I updated to 10.5.8.

Something's broken.

Here is what I see instead - http://i29.tinypic.com/6yfedg.jpg

The Console log shows nothing useful.

Little Snitch
MacTechHead had trouble on 22 Aug 2009
I love this handy tool.

But I have one giant complaint. Version 2.0.5 was the last version that worked properly when logged in as the System Administrator.

Every since version 2.1 to now the root user has no rules, you cannot import any rules and even attempting to use the default rules results with a blank set of rules.

Permissions repair does nothing nor deleting the folders Little Snitch uses .

iFlicks
MacTechHead had trouble on 02 Aug 2009
The last 2 betas won't even start on my Mac. Both iFlicks_1.1_414 and iFlicks_1.1_431.dmg both refuse to start.

Never tried the program before the beta versions, neither beta launches but the 1.0.8 demo launched fine.

Both beta's are Intel only but the demo is Universal Binary ???

Here is the error log

The last 4 error lines just repeat until I force quit the program!

Was I supposed to install something prior to using this? Or was this just a bug?

Vuze
MacTechHead had trouble on 10 Jul 2009
Damn it, been using Azureus / Vuze for for years, this latest update is now non-working for me. It won't connect to any peers.

Bummer, now I gotta track down an earlier copy prior to 4.2.04 that was still working properly for me.

iMac-Intel with 10.5.7 and all the latest updates, and yes I tried using the NAT/Firewall test, changed the port # , test passed, applied the new port # and still nothing. Peers show up and all of them are not connected or still pending.

WTH !

Reverted back to Vuze 4.2.0.2 and everything is working perfectly again. Thank god they have a Source Forge page for prior versions - http://sourceforge.net/projects/azureus/files/
