DSLR Assistant

Macstyler reviewed on 04 May 2012
DSLR Assistant is aptly named. It acts as my second photographer when needed. I set up my MacBook and tether my Canon XSi which is on a tripod. I have it setup to take a picture every 5 seconds to a total of 500. This frees me up to take other pictures as needed.

TinkerTool

I had needed something that would put both scroll arrows on both ends of the scroll bars. This utility does it nicely. No muss and no fuss. Easy to setup and never had any problems with it through any of the upgrades. When I upgraded to 10.6 I even forgot it was there and when I recommended it to a friend, it had been so long since I had set it up I had forgotten the name.

Apple Brother Printer Drivers
Macstyler commented on 18 Jan 2012
I had thought my HL-4070CDW was defective until I read these reviews. Courtesy of all these suggestions, I went to brother.com and downloaded not only the drivers but also discovered there is a firmware update for my printer. Zero stars to Apple for the printing nightmares I've been encountering but a solid 5 stars to you reviewers who pointed me in the right direction. My computer setup is often used for ministerial support and my Pastor greatly appreciates it when someone finds a low/no cost answer to a problem. In his words God Bless you all!

Thunderbird

I have multiple e-mail accounts and I can check them all with just one click. The only time I have ever had a problem was when I made a mistake and configured my server wrong. I also like the fact that I can set up e-mail on multiple platforms (Mac or PC) the same and all my e-mails, incoming and outgoing, are handled the same way which makes for less confusion. The native mail.app is fine for limited use but if I'm on my gaming computer, a custom-built PC, I have no way to check my e-mail on a similar interface. I also like the fact that I can use the "Lightning" plug-in as a readily available calendar and there is little fuss in setting it up to use with google calendar.

MediaHuman Audio Converter

It took all of 5 minutes for me to transfer a playlist in iTunes, convert it into a format compatible with my phone (wma), and then load the songs onto the phone. All done by drag and drop. I used to have to do this on my PC and it was much more involved process.

Glo Bible

Crashed 5 minutes after opening it. Was actually enjoying using it until I opened the Study Bible Notes. The program went grey, got the beach ball and then it crashed. I think I'll stick with Accordance for now.

Mellel

Macstyler reviewed on 20 Nov 2011
I'm a fiction writer and Mellel will not import RTF files for me. Gives an error every time. No matter whether I use 'open' or 'import' I get the error: (NSMutableRLEArray objectAtIndex:effectiveRange:: Out of bounds). I have e-mailed RedleX about the problem. After waiting several weeks for an answer, the only reply I got was that they were going to forward my problem to the support department and that was a month ago. Overall very dissatisfied with product and service. Rated 1/2 star for 'value' even though I got it as part of the bundle. Interesting that I've never had any problems with LibreOffice yet it is free and my writing includes European characters and accents.

MoneyWell

I'm glad I got this as part of a bundle. It will not allow me to sign in using my Financial Institution's information. It keeps demanding that I change my password and when I do, I get an error stating that I'm using 8 characters. I guess I'll keep track of my finances the old fashioned way rather than to put faith in a machine to do it for me!

PhotoSync

Macstyler reviewed on 09 Jun 2011
Interesting app. Unfortunately for it to work you must buy the device app as well. Admittedly $2 is not much to pay but I wish this fact was spelled out in the description. Also I save battery life by turning my 'Location Services' off. This program requires it to be on to function.
