Tangerine

Maclover1.1 reviewed on 26 May 2012
I finally decided to get this, even if it has not been updated for ages. I wrote the dev and asked.. he says he's too busy. Too bad.. in any case it works on my Lion system with all my soft including CS6. Needs to be relaunched once in a while but it is such a great tool for a designer that I don't care.. there is not single tool that approaches this, not Color Schemer nor any other. This guy/dev needs to be encouraged to upgrade it just to keep it stable.

Okay.. now having been on it for quite a few hours since yesterday.. I'll have to say I think Panic are kings of Mac interface design, it looks good and is in my opinion quite practical and lean.

Two things I'd like:

1/
Like in Web Editor (by CoffeeCup.. underrated but new I guess) an AMAZING FEATURE to me: when you go over an element in your preview window (it has a very smart preview mode or navigate mode) it actually highlights both the html and css code directly.. in their respective code windows.. Better than X-Ray or Web Inspector or Firebug.. AND THAT MY FRIENDS.. IS THE ONE THING THAT WOULD MAKE CODA 100% PERFECT IMO !!!

2/
a Firebug Plugin (there is Firebug Light for Safari so I guess that could be ported ?) and an Xray plugin.

NO LIVE PREVIEW WHEN IN CSS...

Almost perfect for my use.. EXCEPT.. still no live preview when working in CCS.. so I could give it four stars.. almost five.. but since I won't use it and I WILL STICK TO ESPRESSO.. I will not grade it at all.

Of course I can use Live Reload.. except that means I need to save every time I want to see a change.. with Espresso I don't' have to and I really like that.

On a contrasting note to some of what I read below.. I actually find the interface is good. Nice to be able to put the sidebar to the right (I wish ALL Mac software would allow that.. I'm right-handed.. wow.. what a concept.. finally people are getting it.

YEEHAH !!!!!!!! Thanks HiredGun.. !!!
IF you were a DJ I'd say you saved my Life ;-) I can now proceed in really trying this new version for a few days !

I ALSO FOUND ANOTHER PIECE OF SOFTWARE THAT IS QUITE COOL !
I'm also trying WEB EDITOR from COFFEECUP (only of.. I find all these softs pretty cheap compared to say Adobe MonsterHouse so I think they all deserve support to progress come up with the best of the best.

Sketch
Maclover1.1 commented on 04 May 2012
Interesting.. though I have purchased an app called iDraw which I find more "Adobe-like".

However I wish someone would develop an app that could save layered/editable png's as Fireworks does.. instead of their own .nameofapp format. That way I could have only one file type for my web development.. and then eventually export to .jpg or .svg (the future..).

I also wish apps could use the "save as" as opposed to "export" for any format.. and "open" as opposed to "import" for any format it can read.. some apps can do that just fine, why don't they all ? It always puzzled me.

There's one app that is available in the AppStore.. Yeah I know.. but still quite a good vector app.. Not sure why these people don't advertise it on here.. iDraw.

Default Folder X

Maclover1.1 reviewed on 16 Jan 2012
Couldn't live without it.. However I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish I could set up my "favorite folders" using whatever hierarchy I'd like (multilevel) instead of a single level. I'd like to be able to create sets, and subsets.

iClipboard

Maclover1.1 reviewed on 14 Jan 2012
Been using this ever since iClip was left to die.. (it was revived lately.. but I cannot see why i would give up iClipboard for iClip as it works perfectly). Not sure why this has gotten so many bad reviews... For many years I used CopyPaste.. then iClip.. then iClipboard since version 3. Never failed me. I'm a graphic designer/web designer.. I copy/paste all day-long..

FontAgent Pro
Maclover1.1 had trouble on 21 Jul 2010
I just had font issues with Flash.. only piece of software that seems to be extremely fussy regarding fonts.. So I cleaned my Fonts Caches.. restarted.. and now FontAgent will display WYSIWYG fine except in the FontPlayer window.. and Flash won't see the activated fonts at all.. Where do I go from here considering my client is showing up in 2 hours.. Do I tell him that Font Management is sort of a never-ending flow of oddities and complexities that has given me more heartache than my whole Love Life (which is no small feat).

Fonts must be the one thing in my computer Life as a graphic designer that has been the most complicated overall seriously... Everything else eventually gets sorted but FONTS... is an evolutive nightmare.

Ok now I feel slightly better.. my Mac will not fly out the window just yet... though I'd love to hear it crash on the ground at this point and forget working with computers altogether.. as it is such a non-Life.

After 5 freakin' reboots.. all my activated fonts are showing up again in my applications (and not just appearing active in FAP).. I'm sure this is an OSX issue and NOT a FontAgent one.. Yet.. I don't know how that happened.. Font Caches are sort of a mystery to me.

Question.. I looked all over.. no luck.. here it is.. neither Camino nor Firefox will see my flash plugin.. I did delete the :
pluginreg.dat
as advised on the Mozilla forum.. still no luck, any idea anyone ?

I've got the latest MacOS and the latest browsers and the latest Flash plugin... which works fine in all my browsers (DevonAgent, Safari, Shiira, Opera).
