A long time customer of CopyPaste Bloat and fearless grappler with its stability issues, I had become heartily disillusioned and completely fed up with its Pro. So I decided to try out ClipMenu. I found to my absolute delight that this is precisely the clipboard utility i've been searching for all these years- fast, ultra lightweight, intuitive, elegantly simple and unobtrusive - my G4 iBook is reborn. And it's free. I love this software.
This app is so 'Mac-like' that some weeks ago I reported a problem with 8.36 not backing up to MobileMe - some months ago I reported the same problem in a previous version - via a 'question' on the Chronos website. I finally received a reply on 13 Aug explaining that Chronos were aware that 8.36 would not back up to MobileMe. I was informed that this probably had something to do with the Mac Os X firewall and was advised to turn it off if it was running. I pointed out that the firewall is always turned off. I was then informed that the problem had something to do with "writing codes" and it was probably Apple's fault. I was advised that a fix could be expected on Monday or Tuesday of the following week - that was 2 weeks ago. I now notice that Chronos "Support" has deleted my open questions on ther website concerning this matter.
One thing that doesn't change concerning this app is the total lack of customer support. I wonder if that constant is related to the completely unspecifc and non-detailed 5 star reviews that tell prospective purchasers absolutely nothing about this software.
I used Schreiben and have just switched to myWritings which I am very happy with. More intuitive, better looking, faster, sleeker - does exactly what is required - easy to use and stable - a lightweight wordprocessor for my lightweight wordprocessing. I really do hope the developer continues to support PPC. Thanks!
Seems to be one step forward and two backward with this app. None of the new prefs work in this version and initially the floating icons disappeared. Also, the developer is never the quickest to respond to emails. Issues I have had with this clipboard in the past were dismissed for weeks by the developer before finally agreeing there was a problem.
I'm going back to the previous version of CopyPaste Pro and intend to try out the free ClipMenu.
As a paying customer, I did as instructed and selected 'Check for Updates' in the iDefrag menu within the app and found that I had downloaded version 1.7.
Trying out this software and cannot get version 8.0.2 (the most recent version according to the dev website) to back up the database to mobileme - reports "http error".
Registered an account with Chronos and submitted request for support via 'question' on their website 48 hours ago [emergency priority] - no reply from Chronos Support.
I have posted this message twice "Why is version 8.02 not available for download on MU? And each post has been deleted so I thought I'd post it again here. Can someone from MacUpdate answer a simple question rather than deleting the post?
I've posted before about CopyPaste Pro not saving clips copied before restarts when "save clips when quitting" is checked in preferences. I have found that the only way to be sure that all clips are remembered in history is to quit CopyPaste Pro before restart. Here is part of a reply I received from the developer July 3 2009:
"i thought before i check in with peter again on that that i would check again to see if it occurs and strangely enough it i did. so you are correct there is a problem with the history not remembering items copied before a restart. i will let peter know and he will get back to us shortly."
A worrying development: When I restart my computer [CopyPaste Pro not in Log-in items], and then manually launch the CopyPaste, most of the clips in the current clipboard disappear. Why? Anyone having the same problem?
Right, this isn't the place for tech support. I wasn't asking for tech support as is clear from the content of the post. I emailed the developer about this around the same time that I posted on macupdate. I haven't kept a copy but the developer replied some weeks later.
