First, my complaint about the developer being unresponsive proved to be unjustified. The delay I experienced was caused by a glitch in the mail being delivered. As others have observed here, once contacted, John responded immediately.
Second, he restored my v.8 license without question, leaving me a very satisfied user of that version.
I will have to agree that there is a very rigid upgrade policy in place for this software and both buyers and existing users should be very wary.
I ran into trouble when I misjudged the original purchase date of v.8 and found that instead of a free upgrade that there would be a $20 charge for v.9. No problem up to that point. I just figured that since the changes were minor that I'd just continue with v.8 for awhile.
However, I then discovered that my serial# for v.8 was no longer recognized by the reinstalled v.8 software. My only choice was to either pay for the upgrade or be limited to the trial version.
To have paid for the full version only a year ago and then to suddenly lose my license because I didn't want to upgrade is something I haven't encountered in 24 years of purchasing Mac software (a lot of it).
My e-mail to the developer 32 hours ago has so far gone unanswered.
I agree that it's his business and he certainly has the right to be as hard-nosed as he wants in his upgrade policy. It just doesn't make any sense to me to lose customers who are otherwise content with the software and would eventually pay for many more future upgrades.
I'm currently using Yojimbo to store all of my software serial numbers, but the drag-and-drop feature that is supposed to be part of myApps would be a major improvement. I'm going to give it a trial spin for that feature alone.
I downloaded the update ( v. 0.1.1) that was just posted and tested the application. It worked like a charm. I was so impressed with the product, and with the developer's immediate fix of a problem pointed out in a review here, that I tendered a donation to help cover his costs and encourage further improvements.
This is a real time-saver for me and I recommend it highly.

Therefore, my prior critique should be ignored.
