MenuTab

The description says FaceTab is "absolutely free", but the "Price" line in the Information area says $1.99.

Startup Chime Stopper
John Sawyer Cjs commented on 25 Oct 2011
I'm guessing this utility and its price are a deliberate joke on the part of the often-criticized programmer, to annoy people--note also the absurd version number: 4.2.-2147483648d-2147483648

ClickToPlugin
John Sawyer Cjs commented on 23 Sep 2011
The developer says, at http://hoyois.github.com/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/

"Safari may crash when updating to ClickToPlugin 2.5+ on 32-bit Macs. If that happens, (re-)install version 2.4.1, uninstall it, and then install the latest version."

I found this to happen on my Mirrored Drive Doors dual G4, and the developer's suggestion fixed this. The only issue I noticed when I did this, was that the version number of ClickToPlugin reported in Safari > Preferences > Extensions didn't get updated until I quit and re-launch Safari.

Notification Center

John Sawyer Cjs reviewed on 16 Sep 2011
This app appears to have disappeared. The link downloads nothing, and the developer's website has also moved, to http://obfuscated.co.uk/, but there's no sign of Notification Center there either.

John Sawyer Cjs commented on 01 Sep 2011
The description of version 2.1 says "Supports only Mac OS X 10.5 or later, and Intel-Only", but the Requirements section on this MacUpdate page still says "PPC / Intel, Mac OS X 10.3 or later".

OnyX

John Sawyer Cjs reviewed on 06 Jul 2011
I tried downloading OnyX today, but got nothing but ads in French. I don't speak much French, but what little I could read on the page showing the ads, had a button that seems to say something like "Click here to go directly to the page you requested", but it just shows more ads.

Geekbench
John Sawyer Cjs commented on 20 Nov 2010
I'm getting a message at launch saying the 2.2.0b1 build is already expired, though it was just posted here yesterday. I don't see a link at the developer's website for downloading any beta versions, so I can't try the latest version.

Intel only for Adobe Reader X? There's no PPC version on Adobe's website.

Judging by the negative "votes" here for comments in which PPC is mentioned, apparently some doofus here has something against the older processor.

Lion Cache Cleaner
John Sawyer Cjs had trouble on 09 May 2011
I'm not clear about what conditions under which some people are seeing SLCC slow down their Mac, eat processor time, etc. If this is happening while the SLCC app itself is performing certain tasks, it's normal for anything (including issuing commands directly in Terminal) that executes some of these tasks, to eat up a lot of processor time, memory, etc. Are some people finding that SLCC is using more resources while performing some tasks, than some other methods of executing those tasks? Are some people setting up SLCC to tell OS X to perform background tasks of various kinds, and that's what's eating the resources? Same often applies there. I just checked my Login Items, and I don't see anything there related to SLCC, though I seem to recall SLCC has options to do that (correct me if I'm wrong)--have people experiencing problems, removed these SLCC-installed Login Items to see if there's any improvement?

Apple Safari
John Sawyer Cjs had trouble on 08 Sep 2010
Even the link to Safari 5.0.2 in the "Related Links" section doesn't give you a Leopard/10.5.x version--it goes to a "page not found" page. To get Safari 5.0.2 for Leopard, use Software Update. If you just want to download the Safari installer so you can install it later at your leisure, select Software Update's 'Update > Download Only' option.

ThemePark
John Sawyer Cjs had trouble on 23 Feb 2010
ThemePark 4.1 isn't downloading from MacUpdate tonight, because the link goes to the www.geekspiff.com website, which isn't coming up tonight, so I got it from CNET. But that copy won't launch on my G4 running OS 10.5.8--it says doesn't support my Mac's architecture, implying it's for Intel Macs only. I've seen people have this problem before, and the developer says he's fixed it, and the system requirements posted everywhere ThemePark is available for download from, say this version is supposed to work under OS 10.5 on a PPC, but it's not working for me. Any suggestions?

Answer found, on this page. ThemePark 4.1 is for Intel only, as shown in the description in the right-hand column. I was looking only at the column on the left, which says just OS 10.4 compatible. Problem is, most other download sites flat-out say ThemePark 4.1 is PPC compatible. Go figure. www.geekspiff.com has disappeared anyway.

Mac DVDRipper Pro
John Sawyer Cjs had trouble on 23 Feb 2010
Same here with a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-112D, in a Mirrored Drive Doors Power Mac G4 Dual Processor--"Fatal Error" when DVDRipper tries to do its initial look at any DVD. I suspect this is an issue between DVDRipper, and the ATA bus in PPC Macs--I suspect DVDRipper would work fine with this drive if I were to remove it and place it into a Firewire drive enclosure.

MoreCamino
John Sawyer CJS had trouble on 06 Feb 2009
My mistake: MoreCamino isn't supposed to be placed in your OS X user-level System Preferences' ~/Library/PreferencePanes folder--as the directions on this download page say, it's supposed to be placed in ~/Library/Application Support/Camino/PreferencePanes. But it takes the form of a regular prefpane, which if you double-click on it, asks if you want to install it into OS X's System Preferences. The programmer shouldn't have let it do that, but the thing is dead now anyway, so it's a moot point.

More on the MoreCamino prefpane not loading: its copy in OS X's System Preferences won't load, but its copy within Camino's preferences, does. Go figure. I don't know why the author had it appear in both locations--to me, it doesn't make sense for it to appear in OS X's System Preferences.
