Can't get disk image to open, Finder says "Legacy disk image should be converted", on Lion. Tried 3 downloads.

Apple OS X Lion
Joeschisa commented on 02 Feb 2012
Was kind of hoping for iBooks 2 for mac, or at least set the underpinnings for it: if they don't do that I will instinctively reassess my opinion of Apple's marketing and education strategy. Hope it's snappier because in Apple's list of changes there doesn't seem much for all the size as I've had few glaring issues except for having to rebuild launchpad's database reading a few times.

Kindle

Joeschisa reviewed on 25 Jan 2012
Good for Kindle, allowing their books on what seems most any device: wish apple would do same. Had one complaint that graphics didn't seem to show up in mac edition, not sure if this version corrects that and if previous purchases have to be downloaded again if graphics now show. I haven't spent a lot of time reading on screen, been busy, but even if the execution is not quite right (not sure), the ability to send them almost effortlessly to various devices is what I give it the stars for.

just a note: is this thing with the portable devices a replay of the apple/microsoft "battles" of last century wherein microsoft got the "market advantage" by having their stuff run on many hardware (computer) manufacturers (to oversimplify, I suppose)?

Oops, if you bought this at app store, shouldn't install this, I did and wouldn't work, fortunately I'd CC (carbon copied) Sys disk and replaced this download with previous app, which again worked.

Microsoft Office 2011

Joeschisa reviewed on 14 Jan 2012
Bought this since son needs it in school. I've only tried Word and there the one really big complaint for me is the dictionary is online; because of that I don't use it; If they offered option to use mac dictionary I might fire it up for large prose that required sync with Windows based computers.

Doesn't seem to support audio units (question); couldn't find any reference to them on their web site.

Adobe Photoshop Elements

Joeschisa reviewed on 31 Dec 2011
I have to say I like it, despite the adobe thing and all that. Been using for years, tried others, but for purely editing personal photos, either scanned from 100 years ago or taken last week, the program does what I need it to do though sometimes I got to mess around to get things looking OK (enough memory for undos make this not so bad). Can't compare with other programs much as I've stuck with this, despite upgrade fees. Don't think I'd use it to make a graphic from scratch and don't use it for importing photos/scans, but it's name doesn't imply those tasks. Rate today as I'm scanning whole heap of old photos taken out of storage.

fp Plugin

Joeschisa reviewed on 10 Dec 2011
Not only is it one of the most useful plugins for ReadStudio, and I expect Xcode, if you need numbers with a lot of digits, but just as important for me was that the modification of code from his previous plugin (Extended) was smooth as can be for me. That it is free is a statement about the professional character of the man.

Scrivener

Joeschisa reviewed on 24 Nov 2011
I bought this recently to work on essays I've got from the past that weren't finished. I like it a lot (for reasons which others below have already expressed). Only wish it allowed wrap around graphics, hence the half star off (maybe I should have given it full 5 stars): yes, I realize it isn't everything (or maybe it will evolve), and this limitation is why one chooses different programs for different purposes. As others have mentioned, the online tutorials get you up and running with its organizational features quickly. Not sure on stability yet, but ...

Apple OS X Lion
Joeschisa commented on 14 Oct 2011
This is off topic, and I apologize, don't mind if it's removed, but is there any hope that a third party will take up the slack and make a build of Rosetta that runs on Lion, not to mention "classic mac OS 9" programs (a few of which I can find no comparable programs for OS X).

Thanks Lvdoc, not sure I ever heard of SheepShaver, I'll look it up. Regarding Rosetta, either something in Lion broke it which they decided not to bother fix, or they just cut it out even though it required little to maintain. I think someone could do well, taking on the task of getting Rosetta back up and running.

Well, this update was posted on my site about a year ago, but apparently someone found it and notified MacUpdate today, well that's OK I guess, I never did announce this version because it doesn't make much diff if ya don't use pictures for records. See previous comment by myself (developer) concerning Lion apparent incompatibility. As I therein said, a user emailed me that it wasn't working on Lion (last night), so i rebuilt the program with most recent version of RealStudio. But since I'm not on Lion (still with SnowLeopard) I really can't say if my quick fix allows it to work on Lion, any feedback on that would be appreciated though I can't promise to get it working on Lion as my programing days may be about done, not sure on that. The quick attempt to fix for Lion is version 0.9.7.2.0.0.

Just for the sake of completeness, the user who mentioned it didn't work on Lion was new to the program and it may be that it is working on Lion. To any user, you must know the program is not very intuitively mac like though the help files attempt to get one up an running with it. Program Not under active development, though I can muck around in it if necessary, I just can't manage any real extended development in it due to health problems.

Having finally installed Lion on an external firewire drive, didn't want to switch (upgrade), just test it, I can say all my applications appear to be running fine on Lion.
