Having seen negative reviews here I felt I was taking a gamble, but File Salvage worked superbly for me, recovering important MS Word documents I had created ten months before and somehow trashed from my iBook.

I guess it won't always work and when it doesn't you may well feel like posting a negative review, but it worked for me and was well worth the price to avoid having to do the work all over again.
