Sixtyforce

istumbler reviewed on 04 Sep 2006
Okay, after playing a bit the Intel version of Sixtyforce is excellent. The PPC version lagged on my 1Ghz Powerbook but now I have to turn on speed limiting just to make mario playable. Looks beautiful, plays smoothly, even the default keyboard controls are well though out.

$15 is a great price for a product of this caliber, you just can't underestimate the ammount of work that goes into making really great software.

I was excited to play Zelda, sadly it's not supported yet:

"This preview release is meant to show off months of work on sixtyforce's Intel support. (So you can finally rest assured an Intel version is vigorously being worked on.)"

"On Intel machines, the only playable game is Super Mario 64."

Guess I'll have to settle for collecting a few stars...

MailTags

istumbler reviewed on 21 Aug 2006
MailTags is a great addition to Mail.app the ability to tag emails has always been a great feature, the iCal integration is a huge improvement and now the ability to share tags across all my Macs is the icing on the cake. I donated for my copy of 1.x and encourage anyone who wants to stay on top of their email to check this out and purchase now before the price goes up.

2.0 Public Beta has a few rough edges but the important features like synchronization with multiple computers and tag information in the mail tables work very welll and it's been stable for me.

Wow, look at the long list of spyware this thing detects....

http://macscan.securemac.com/spywarelist.html

I'd be much more willing to try this out if the threat it's going to protect me from was documented. Otherwise it's just wasting resources like virus scanners looking for nothing.

Not to say there are no examples of OSX malware, just that there are no know vectors of infection besides downloading and running suspicious executables, even then there arent' any konwn privlidge escallation attacks so you would have to authorize the installation of a keylogger or remote admin tool.

MailTags

This is a great addition to Apple's Mail, allowing you to keep up to date with multiple projects and to-do items with a quick glance at your inbox. The tight integration with Spotlight really shows when searching for messages in Mail or the Finder.

It's not perfect--the ability to assign multiple projects to an email message would be handy--but Mail Tags does what it says, quickly and reliabaly, and delivers solid features for a 1.0 product. I highly reccomend it.

Upgrading users may have problems with the AirPort plugin showing no data. You can either re-download the current version (87a) or remove your iStumbler preferences file which is located in your home directory:

~/Library/Preferences/net.istumbler.plist

I'm very sorry for the hassle, future version of iStumbler will have versions in the bundle id's and will not attempt to share preferences between versions.

" Only problem, my log would clear out by its self."

That's actually a feature, if the log didn't clear itself out it would eventually fill up your swap disk.

If you want iStumbler to remember more than the default 10 minutes you'll have to change it in the prefrence panel.
