I bit the bullet and upgraded to CS5 from CS3; however, I won't be buying anymore Adobe products in the foreseeable. In particular, I won't be buying anything that requires a seriously overpriced, unfriendly to the end-user subscription. Sadly, Adobe has gotten too big, too unwieldy, and too expensive. After playing around with Muse for a couple of hours this morning, I think Muse is a product that's symptomatic of much bigger problems with Adobe's current business model; that is, overpriced, underwhelming, and based on hazy/lazy assumptions about what its users want/need.
I will continue using CS5 for the time being, but I've already started looking for alternative software to replace it--and high quality, user-friendly, alternatives that don't break the bank are easy to find by anyone willing to spend the time looking.
Unless Adobe wakes up and starts paying close attention to what its users are saying, it will find itself on the fast track to being about as relevant as Microsoft has become of late.
This program does a great job of what it claims to do. In particular, the ability to modify and then record a soundscape is especially hand when you want to relax and aren't or don't want to be around a computer. I've recorded several soundscapes I've created for myself and put them on my iPod--it's a great way to block out the noise of other commuters on the train, or when I'm flying.
I really like this application and have had it sitting in my menubar for quite awhile now. Weather Vane is a good example of software that does what its designed to do, and does it very well and unobtrusively. Unfortunately, updating to OS X 10.6 seems to have damaged it. Specifically, once the preferences are initially set, they can't be changed. Likewise, the "About" and "Quit" commands at the bottom of the menu no longer seem to work. Since the program does display and update the weather and temperature this isn't a huge issue since I almost never change my preferences after setting them the first time--but I do hope this fixed in the next release.
