About Me I am a MacUpdate Desktop user
Gender: Male
I have been a professional photographer since 1979. In the early years, I traveled with my Canon A-1 and Linhof Technika 4x5 view camera photographing the American West, amassing a stock photo library of over 10,000 transparencies. I now shoot exclusively digital with Nikon equipment, looking to craft outstanding photographs. My photographs have appeared in numerous ads, books, magazines, and on magazine covers. Assignments have included such clients as the National Park Service and U.S. Electricar.

For those who are new to Aperture 3, be sure to turn off "Faces" and "Places". These are on by default. This will greatly improve your Aperture performance. I've been using/teaching Aperture for several years now, and 99% of the complaints I receive for how slow it is has to do with these two features being left on. Unless you absolutely need Faces and Places, leave them turned off.
It *should* run, but 2 gigs of RAM is pretty tight for both the operating system and Aperture 3 to be running. I upgraded my 2009 MacBook from 2 gigs to 4 gigs of RAM at Amazon for about $25 (the memory brand was called Crucial, and I installed it myself in about 5 minutes). Aperture 3 now runs flawlessly and fast.
I had accidentally formatted one of my Nikon's SD cards with several AVI (video) files on it. I tried CardRaider, and all it would recover were the NEF raw files. It could see the AVIs, but it would not recover them. I then went to Disk Drill Pro and it was able to also recover the video files. Highly recommended.
I find it VERY suspicious that most of the 5-star reviews here are from people who reviewed this app the very day they joined MacUpdate, and only have 2 or 3 reviews total, and a lot of those reviewers also reviewed Elmedia Player, one of Eltima's other products. And Johnyyyy even goes as far as to bash PDFKey Pro (which I have NO problems with) and pdf-Recover, while giving a 5-star rating to Recover PDF Password, another Eltima product.
Because someone else rated this 1/2 star with no reason why, and since I use A Better Finder Attributes and this is the exact same app, but renamed because of Apple, I'm rating this 5 stars. This is a great program, by the same author as A Better Finder Rename, the best renaming utility for the Mac.
So what ever happen to Witch 4, which Many Tricks last mentioned below back on December 8, 2010 (more than 2 years ago)? Count me as another unsatisfied customer who has switched to Optimal Layout (formerly WindowFlow). A 2-year silence from the developer is not good for future business.
Several things seem to be broken or buggy now after upgrading Lion to 10.7.3. Visor behaves very erratically. Performed an uninstall and a reinstall and the same problems persist. Hopefully the dev can get this fixed soon, as this has become one of my indispensable utilities.
There's a problem that I'm having with the new version 2.0. I use the 3-finger click to bring up Spaces, and with the old version, it would stay in Spaces after I released the mouse so that I could choose the Space I wanted to navigate to. With this version, when I press the mouse using the 3-finder click, Spaces pops up, but when I release the mouse, it goes away. Is there a new preference or something similar that I'm missing?
I love HyperDock, but the latest version (0.9.12.1) introduced a new problem for me. Without warning, the window previews in the dock will just stop working. The only workaround to getting them back is to open the HyperDock prefpane and the disable, then enable HyperDock. Hopefully the next version will fix this problem.
When trying to update to 2.0.1, I get an immediate message stating "The were errors installing, please try again." Reinstalled from my original Halo UB disk, then tried the updater again, and I get the same error message.
Version 2.0.1 still has problems with QuicKeys. QuicKeys will lock up after choosing the "Choose Menu" button in creating a new macro. I've sent reports of this to Unsanity, but most of my emails to them go unanswered. I really wish they would fix this. At this point I need QuicKeys more than I need Unsanity's products, so off they go.
I'm having a problem with 1.3.2 that happens in several programs. Font styles in submenus cannot be chosen, it only defaults to the main listed font in the main menu. If I'm using ITC Berkeley, and I want to choose the italic version, it won't accept the change and keeps the regular version. The font set is complete, but FontCard won't allow the style change. I have no problems with You Control: Fonts, but I like the fact the FontCard works in the app's own font menu and not a separate one. I've contacted Unsanity twice in the last month via their email tech support and have yet to hear a word. Terrible support!
