To make turn your icons to images FOR FREE, just copy (cmd + v) your selected icon from the Finder, open up Preview and choose File -> New from Clipboard. You can then save out the icon as any image file that Preview supports. Even supports large 512px icons in Leopard.
NTFS-3G is incredibly unreliable when it comes to writing to data to NTFS volumes. The nags and convoluted process of mounting "unverified" NTFS drives is also frustrating. Paragon's NTFS for OS X is a much more dependable (though not free) solution for those who take NTFS compatibility seriously.
My CS3 is properly updated and I haven't had problems since 10.5.2... you should upgrade the suite... unless youre using a un-upgradeable pirated version of CS3... ;) Peace!
