Just wanted to say how useful sites like this are. I haven't used this software, but I have downloaded it by accident.
I went to their site on the lookout for a decent anti-virus program. On the first page are a few icons which supposedly point to reviews from other sites. But when I clicked on the review link, it downloaded the software.
"Bit sneaky," I thought, so I came here and wasn't really surprised that all the negative reviews.
Thanks guys. You've probably saved me from wrecking my Mac.

"but at this time, since the reviews come from unique users who really were motivated to show their support for the app, we've chosen not to delete them."
But if they were 'motivated' by being offered free licenses then I don't really see how the reviews can be trusted.
Yes, the site seems to have kicked off again, and Butler is no longer donation-ware; they've fixed the price at $20. I don't have a problem with this (seems like a fair price to me, though others may find it a little high compared to QSB, Quicksilver and Alfred). One thing that bothers me is the way the company just stopped without any word of explanation to its customers.
First they stopped answering emails.
Then they stopped answering questions on the forums (this went on for more than six months).
Then the forums were closed down for maintenance and never reopened (they still haven't reopened as far as I can tell).
So before I think about handing over any cash to them, I'd like to know why they closed down in the first place. Other Mac developers have closed down or given up, but usually give some kind of explanation so that customers are given a clear indication that they need to find alternatives. In fact, I'm often surprised how well Mac users take this news.
I'd also like to know if the much bragged about Butler5 will ever make an appearance, or if they're just carrying on with Butler4 (though I suppose this isn't really important as long as they carry on supporting the product).
Okay, it doesn't do quite as much as the competition but it also doesn't hog memory, crash, lose your clips or get left for years without an update.
The simple window blends nicely (almost invisibly) with the rest of the UI, so you don't get that 'jarring' feeling you get when some of these so-called 'utilities' take over your whole environment. Having said that, the previews are certainly large enough to see what your about to paste (very important for us oldies with poor eyesight).
As well as being very keyboard friendly, the developer has also included some nice usability touches: it comes up with the second item selected rather than the first. This seems a little bit weird at first, but if you wanted the first item on the clipboard, then the chances are you'll just hit command-v without even thinking about it.
Best of all, the developer responds quickly and politely to bug reports and feature requests.
Recommend that you give it a try before shelling out for something more expensive, less well supported and heavy on the memory use. You may find that the smaller feature set is all you really need.
