Eodtech reviewed on 11 Feb 2012
February 11, 2012 - 2.6.1 update released to fix apps ability to restart after a backup. Back to a 5 star app. This app also backs up your address book and backup / restoring Address Book is an added bonus.

Email Backup Pro

Six months after Lion and it's still broken. Don't waste you time and $$ on this app - it does not work with Lion. Apple Mail locks up after this app is run and it's a pain to get Apple Mail back up and running. Anyone with suggestions for a good back up solution for Apple Mail?

2.1 upgrade has been on APP store since December 17th. I was informed by eMail that the upgrade from within the app would be out Dec 28th. Still no auto upgrade for those with 2.0 What is the problem? Someone needs to get their act together and live up to their obligations to those who have paid for the program and don't want to deal with the APPstore. !

Neither of the apple ( Mac & iOS 5 ) are free, no try before you buy is not offered. Developers need to offer 15 or 30 day trials on their WWW site. I have been burned once buying an app w/o being able to try it out first.

TinyGrab
Eodtech commented on 28 Jul 2011
TinyGrab was acquired by development agency Company 52 and has begun a new chapter; one of stability and growth. Since taking ownership 2 weeks ago, Company 52 has stabilized the service, solved nearly all of the outstanding problems that were making TinyGrab unusable, and dramatically improved customer support response time.
Looks like things may be back on track - time will tell.
All previous purchases will be honored, current features will continue to be supported, and all previously working or incomplete / buggy features will be completed! In addition, new feature enhancements are in the pipeline

Playback

Eodtech reviewed on 27 Mar 2011
I purchased a PS3 4 months ago, downloaded a Freeware utility to connect the PS3 to my iMac and it worked, well almost worked. I could never get the app to see my external drives that stored my movies, if they were on the iMac it was no problem. I never could get the app to find my playlist recordings. It showed the playlist but there were no tunes in them! After 4 months I decided I wanted to watch a movie and the s/w could not locate the PS3, everything had been the same setup since I put it in service. After an hour of messing around with the setup i still could not watch a movie. I then downloaded Playback, installed it and ALL my movies, songs, TV shows, playlists, artists, EVERYTHING on my iMac showed up on the PS3. I did not have to configure one item, Playback found everything on its own. A real gem, live and learn I guess is the lesson learned ! FREE is not always good !

Synkron

Eodtech reviewed on 16 Mar 2011
A number of strategies have been devised over the years and I think I have tried them all. The problem is I never found one that 100% met and satisfied my requirements. IRecently I took a look at programs that were listed on MacUpdate ( www.macupdate.com ) and found a solution for doing backups that is fast , simple and does not rely on any cloud or other online assistance to accomplish the backup.

I had been using Apple Backup software in conjunction with MobileMe to store my backups. There were a could bottlenecks using this strategy that caused me some grief. When mobileMe was not available I could not upload my files I wanted to backup AND second the connection and processing was extremely slow.

I finally have found the “ ideal “ backup strategy for my iMac.

1. I use SuperDuper ( http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html ) to accomplish a fully bootable backup of my hard drive. I do not include data folders such as spreadsheets, documents, pictures, movies, etc. ( They are covered in item #2 ). The SuperDuper backup is completed on a schedule at 3:33AM every night and takes approximately 40 minutes.
2. I use a “syncing” software to back up individual folders as needed. The software is Synkron ( www.synkron.sourceforge.net ) and is Freeware. Synkron is an application for folder synchronization that allows you to configure your synchronizations in detail. Synkron compares files just by their last modified dates.
3. I use an external hard drive to store my synchronized backup files on an as needed basis, scheduled backups can be made witin the program.

Synkron ( Freeware ) is a simple answer to a complex problem every computer owner has and does not want to admit it. Synkron cures the problem with no painful side effects, and you know backing up files is something you must do on a regular basis.

YemuZip

Eodtech reviewed on 06 Mar 2011
I can remember the first time I used ARC ( command line input ) on a DOS PC to ZIP a file. Slick as snot on a door handle, I was impressed with the technology of the 1980's. Well YemuZip makes life a lot easier with Mac drag & drop technology to get the same job done - quickly , down and dirty it's a no brainer to make ZIP files, works like a champ. Another GREAT utility from YMS is SizzlingKeys for controlling iTunes. This is functionality that Apple should have included with iTunes from the very beginning ! The ability to control ALL iTunes functions from the Desktop with a variety of keys combinations makes life a lot easier. Period - end of story. Do yourself a favor and buy the Bundle of 9 applications ( ALL are winners in my book ) for $40. Between SnapnDrag and File Chute ( BOTH received 4 Mice ratings from Macworld ) you'll be satisfied with the bundle , plus "PRO" upgrades to 4 of the applications in the bundle! - I also use YemuZip for a drag and drop solution to making ZIP files. I have used a number of screen capture utilities over the years and I keep going back to SnapnDrag ( from YMS ) , for it's simplicity in getting the job done. Works 100% of the time, 3 option choices cover ALL of my needs. I highly recommend SnD for your screen capture needs. I also use a number of other applications from Yellow Mug Software, and they ALL are winners! I am in no way connected with YMS or any of it's employees, I am a 100% satisfied customer. Give their products a test drive, it's not going to cost you any $$$ and I am sure you will be pleasantly .

CheckBook Pro
Eodtech had trouble on 05 Nov 2009
I am a registered user of CBPro

I recently had a "farkle" on my Admin account and had to make a new user account, transfer info, etc

When started CBPro it could not find the accounts.plist and neither did Spotlight!

So Logged onto CheckbookPro WWW site and took a look at the FAQ.

Well all my questions were answered in the FAQ - copied my backup accounts file from my external hard drive and everything was just the way I left it under the old user account

FANTASTIC - you are by far way ahead of the competition in this regard, I have never see a FAQ that covers just about all the possibilities of what can go wrong

You are to be commended, thanx for 1 less headache
