MS Office has reached a stage where it is simply not usable anymore. Not only can it not handle right-to-left languages (and has no plans to ever do so...), but it cannot even read my old Word documents (e.g., text in text-boxes does not show up on the screen!). The current Neooffice Writer seems to be completely compatible--my demanding Word files load up perfectly so far. At this point the main shortcoming is a lack of choices for bibliography/footnoting software. I am restricted to Zotero, which is a fine app., but the plugin chokes on large bibliographies. Hopefully that well-known bug will be repaired soon.
