Great, easy to use app, but what it really needs is the option to queue downloads to be transferred sequentially. Currently it starts downloading everything simultaneously and more often than not they fail to complete, forcing you start again from scratch, babysitting as you go.

Version 1.5 locked up my computer on three separate occasions, and when it did perform the image adjustments I applied to my images it took forever. Complete joke of an application. Steer well clear!

GlimmerBlocker
Dreamkatcha commented on 09 Oct 2009
Yes, it blocks ads, but unfortunately that's not all it blocks. With this enabled, half the pages I (try to) visit need to be refreshed before they'll appear, and the ones that do load first time take three times as long. I'd rather see the ads than go back to dial-up speeds, thanks.

I tried to uninstall it as per the instructions and the 'activate GlimmerBlocker' checkbox was greyed out so I had to delete the preference pane and then re-install it just to see if GlimmerBlocker was the cause of my problems. It was.

Movist
dreamkatcha commented on 09 Nov 2008
I've only just discovered Movist, but I'm definitely considering making it my default video player.

All the issues I had with VLC are solved:

- It remembers your playback position (bookmark support in VLC is non-existent despite the option being there for window dressing)

- You can sync the volume to that of your system's main volume level, which saves a lot of hassle when you often switch between headphones and speakers

- Less cluttered, more intuitive Mac-like interface

- The Apple remote behaviour is more logical i.e. clicking left or right to jump x seconds forwards or backwards rather than holding the buttons down, which can result in accidentally skipping to the next video.

- Essential options such as video stretching aren't buried away in the most obscure sub-menus.

The only glitch I've found is that when you skip backwards, the audio stalls momentarily. Strangely enough it kicks in immediately when you skip forwards.

One option that might need a bit more explanation is 'under scanning'. What does that do?

Other than that I'm extremely impressed and am looking forward to the next update.

While it's great to finally see a Mac link checker with a GUI it would be nice if it didn't try to crawl whole web sites when you instruct it to only check a single page.

It 'ignores' links you tell it not to follow yet lists them in the results as 'not checked' anyway. I assume this means that every link on a site has to be taken into account before the process finishes and the results are shown. In my case this means waiting until it has plodded its way through nearly 2000 links.

MacPilot

I tried this app for one reason alone: to enable the cut and paste options within Finder's context menu.

I was able to cut a selection of files, but when I switched to another folder to paste them found that no such option appears in the context menu. The only way to make the files re-appear in their original location seems to be to select undo from Finder's edit menu.

The files are instantly removed (or at least become invisible) when cut so I suspect if you didn't reverse the operation before powering down you'd lose them for good. Not exactly ideal.

I'll stick with the free and reliable Onyx, thanks.

DOSBox
dreamkatcha commented on 10 Dec 2006
It seems to totally ignore any changes I make to the default DOSBox.Prefs file and doesn't recognise the 'conf' command when I try to remind the app where the config file is located.

After setting the frame skipping to 1 and increasing the CPU cycles I managed to run Command & Conquer at a reasonable speed on a Mac Mini 1.4ghz with 512mb RAM.

Radio2ipod

This is one of the few apps worthy of a permanent place in my dock. I use it every day to record a variety of BBC radio shows and it works flawlessly 99% of the time. As cliched as it is to say it does exactly what it promises... it does exactly what it promises. Excellent work!

Radnor

dreamkatcha reviewed on 10 Dec 2006
More trouble than it's worth - don't waste your time.

I installed SDL and created the (sometimes) necessary symlinks yet nothing will launch through Radnor.

My DOS games work fine when executed from the vanilla command line version of DOSBox, and E-UAE works which suggests that my installation of SDL is functional.

I love these one-function, no nonsense tools that do exactly what they promise to do, but why is it 100mb when uncompressed? Does the .app incorporate a camouflaged Norton application? ;)

Gnome Runner

When I select which level I'd like to start on and press 'play' nothing happens. I gather that's not the intended effect?

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a Mac Mini Intel Core Duo if that helps.

Does anyone know why this app won't work with a T-Mobile broadband dongle? Whenever I try to download audio or video I just get the error blip/beep and nothing happens.

Radio2ipod
dreamkatcha had trouble on 29 May 2007
Just some odd behaviour I thought you might appreciate me reporting...

Choosing not to add recordings to iTunes has no effect - Radio2ipod has a stab at it either way.

The entries that automatically appear in iTunes, however, are unusable because it claims not to be able to locate the original files even though they haven't been moved from the desktop. To play them back or move them to your iPod you have to manually import them and delete the original entry from the library.

dreamkatcha had trouble on 16 Apr 2007
Just upgraded to the latest version and noticed that it plays what it's recording out loud making it impossible to listen to other audio at the same time.

I can't seem to find a way to mute the app independent of other system sounds. Any help would be much appreciated.
