With out a doubt the best support system out there for a tech. As someone who spend a lot of time working on "OPN" (Other Peoples Networks) I could not live with out this useful tool.
I have also spent a lot of time comparing the other products like ARD, Timbuk2 and Go2MyPC and with out any hesitation I can tell you it's the best. While I use ARD when I need some additional Apple related feature I mostly use LMI because I can work on any type of machine (Windows. Mac and soon Linux) from my Mac, iPad or even iPhone.
This is with just the "Free" version of the client. If I were willing to pat for the Pro version I would also be able to do file transfers; and the pro client is still cheaper the paying for TB2. As a work around if I need to transfer a file I just boot up iChat or Google Docs and then use that as a go between, not a real headache.
Now let's talk about the security of the product... LMI uses a full 256bit AES encrypted tunnel between my machine and the "target". They also offer 2 factor authentication when I log in to my account.
For this and many more reasons I don;t have time to add here I recently upgraded my account to the LMI Central service which I would recommend to any tech or someone who has a lot of machines to support on many OPN.
I installed 10.8 P1 on my test drive (a clean copy of 10.6.8) and it all went quite smooth. I then got down to taking a good look at the updated apps, the UI fixes and the underpinnings; all I have to say is while I still have a few things I absolutely hate (game center for one) all in all the OS is safe!
Apple took the time to read a lot of the notes we have been writing in the forums and fixed the big pet peeves. For example:
1) Calendar (formally iCal) has its full controls back. You can now AGAIN work with all your calendars showing at all times. We also have the mini month back... YEA
2) Address Book you can now see your groups again
3) When you are shutting down (or Restarting) the "Reopen windows... check box remembers your last choice... YEA
I also noticed that all of the system software is now seems to be 64bit so we got the speed back. 10.8 does feel snappier then 10.7
I am sure as I play with it over the next few weeks I will have more to say. But I did have to come here and do my mea coppa.
Now that I have (or am ready to) take(n) my lumps I will add what I don't like.
1) That leather interface on Calendar and Address Book UGLY!!
2) The fact I can not delete something like Game Center bug me to no end. My Mac is for work and I will not be using it and don't want it on my machine. (BTW just for $%^7s and giggles I did go and delete the entire continents of Game Center to see if that effected anything; all I can say is... not so much)
3) Notifications...I think they are going to be intrusive. I don't use Growl now and don't really want to start (BTW, I might change my mind on that one once I really start playing with it and if I can make it disappear when I'm woking on something important and don't want to be interrupted).
OK that is for now. IF you feel the need to flame me for ripping this after just seeing the released video and description, go for it... I might just deserve it. (but can you blame it?! I mean iOS is not a techs dream of an OS... well at least not this tech) ;-0
Ok I think it might just be time to go to a Linux OS because this may just be the binning of the end of the Macintosh!
I have "bled in 6 colors" since 1984 when I got my first Mac and have reveled in each and every new version of OS because each one gave me more and more freedom to create the work environment that was best for me. Now Apple has decided that I don't know what works best for me and want me to ONLY do things the way they want.
After looking at the video of 10.8 I may never buy a new Mac again and back-grade (not down-grade) to 10.6.8 and just stay there. 10.7 is not good but 10.8 looks like its just iOS on a Mac... THE MAC IS NOT AN iOS DEVICE!!!!
First off, to all that replied to my post, thanks! I love reading your perspectives (both pro and con). There is nothing like a great debate!
I am going to install it on a machine tonight and give a real review later on... However as I look at all the developer notes I find that there are a number of things that give me pause.
First off the whole idea of "Gatekeeper" and Apple's new obsession with controlling what I can install. For example I do not like the USB drivers that come with the Logitech input devices so I use a great little utility "ControllerMate". Currently Apple will not let this developer sell his App threw the AppStore because it 'backdoors' a number of it's USB controllers to get things done.
Second, while MacOS in general was never an open system we power users still had a lot of ability to alter the user experience to make the machine reflect our personality. Can anyone remember Kaleidoscope and other tools that allowed users to create a theme for there UI? How about QuickKeys? Apple seems to want to change from the "Computer for the rest of us" to the 'Computer we say your want'... That is just not for me.
Lastly (at least for this post), OS X is unix. At it's heart this is an old (in the good way), mature OS that has so much going for it that every modern OS is based on it. It's open, tested and for the most part secure. Why does Apple want to go back to Mac OS 9-(minus). A locked down system we have to "jailbreak" to get done what we need to get done?
Just my $0.02 and worth just what you paid for it!!!
As compared to it's competition like ControllerMate SteerMouse is over priced and likes a number of tools that give it the flexibility a third parity controller should have.
Why is this game so bad? One word answer... STEAM!
Steam, which you have to run to even install and/or launch the game, has a UI the is confusing and difficult to navigate. It opens ports in to you machine you no longer have control over and take up resources you just don't need.
All in all while I really like Duke the Steam take all the flavor out of him!!!
It (2.8) seems better (to most) on ANY size screen...
I'm using two screens (15" and 27") and it still take up to much room. add to that, the lack of controls over font size, windowing and general UI everyone I know is going back to older versions. even friends on Windows!

Ever since MS took over Skype (well before actually) the software has gotten a UI that made it nearly impossible for a user to interface with!!
I am sticking with 2.8!!!
