Adobe Flash Player

Donmontalvo reviewed on 12 May 2012
OMFG how I wish Flash would roll over and die.

There, I got that out of my system.

This new version does nothing to address the (endless) spinning-beach-ball issues impacting our users, and impacting many users in many other environments.

Adobe...please...kill Flash. Embrace HTML5.

And anyone who's livelyhood depends on Flash...please learn HTML5 so you can continue to pay the bills after this monstrosity is eradicated.

Microsoft Office 2011

Donmontalvo reviewed on 09 May 2012
Of coures the Outlook 2011 text wrap issue is still not resolved.

Create a new message with a couple paragraphs.
Save as draft.
Reopen the draft.
Tadaaaaa....undesired wrapping.

I guess it's true, Microsoft will only address issues when a huge spotlight is shined on them. They continue to show they're strictly in this for the money and don't give a cr@p about their reputation.

@Younkint We've reported this to our Microsoft account rep. As a 110,000 strong outsource firm we've got a bit of influence, well at least on the Wintel side. In any case we don't use consumer methods of communication to report issues to Microsoft. I post here so folks get feedback based on large enterprise environments. Thanks for the advice though.

I know Microsoft developers have got'a eat too, but how about addressing the SLOOOOWWWWW launch times for Excel? It's rediculously annoying to all our users.

The text wrapping issue on Outlook (create a draft with a paragaph of text; save as draft; now open the draft; tadaaa - instant undesired wrapping).

Transmit

Donmontalvo reviewed on 01 May 2012
We had problems trying to upgrade users from 4.1.7 to 4.1.8, where users wanted to run the "Check for updates" menu option. The update would download but fail during install (with Transmit not running). The fix was to manually download the update and apply.

Still 5 stars...no other FTP client is as easy to set up, use, deploy and support.

Comic Life

I have to admit Comic Life isn't just a load of fun, but it's extremely well designed. No issues, kudos to the developer.

Who's the genius who embedded a script that prompts the user? Thanks for making this update undeployable. The incredible lack of management oversight on the development side continues.

From the MacEnterprise list:

From: Diane Ross
Subject: Microsoft Office 2011 SP 2 Database upgrade woes

Service Pack 2 (SP2) will upgrade the Outlook Identity. We are seeing reports about bad upgrades and/or lost data after upgrading.

Be sure to backup the Identity and the Microsoft Office folder prior to updating to SP2!

One user reported the following:

After the auto updater updated my Office 2011 mac version to 14.2.0, my outlook identity said that it needed to upgrade (after the re-boot). The upgrade fails saying that the identity needs to be repaired. The Database repair utility fails saying that the database is from an older version and I need to use the older version of the repair utility.

Yet another report of issues with 14.2.0...let's hope Microsoft recognizes the clear need for management oversight of their dev group...from Twitter:

“@officemachelp: Heads up! Office for Mac 2011 SP2 moves several Microsoft User Data (MUD) files to ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/.”

Why does Chrome not have an intelligent "Check for updates" function? Firefox can check for updates, download in the background, and prompt you to update...how ya like it now, Google?
