MacKeeper

Dolphbucs reviewed on 13 Jul 2011
Just one other observation. It always raises a red flag to me when reviewers are responded to by the author in a negative manner. If someone dislikes your product, there are polite and non-snarky ways of responding to the negative remarks rather than getting defensive about the product. If the product is really that good, it should be able to stand up to negative comments without combacks. Otherwise, Norton and McAfee would have been out of business long ago.

MacKeeper

While I don't condone Koingo Software's practice of posting the virtues of their own software in the review section of a competitor, I find it ironic that the authors of MacKeeper lecture Koingo about using "ethical and legal" practices while advertising MacKeeper through popup ads on Piratebay ( I saw someone complain about that on a Tech forum I belong to and logged onto Pirate Bay to see if it was true. 15 mins later, I was getting pop under ads for MacKeeper which I verified to point to their correct website ).

To Tingo ... that's just the point. Pirate bay is a Bit Torrent feed site. I don't use it myself, but as I said, I do belong to several of the major Tech Support forums ( Apple, MacCast and TWiT ) and heard from them that MacKeeper was advertising there. I went to the Piratebay site to confirm or disprove the allegation only. I am VERY tech savy and know to have pop-ups enabled, however there are certain sites ( PirateBay being one of them ) where the pop-ups ( or more correctly pop-unders ) get past all the major blockers. like I stated in the previous post, I did verify that the ads do indeed point to the correct ZeoBit site and I think it speaks volumes about a company that it would allow such ads to be run in such a way.

Besides, even if most pop-up blockers were effective on that site, and people could avoid the ads, how does that excuse or justify the authors of MacKeeper trying to sell their product in that way ?

By far THE best digital comic viewer/organizer out there for ANY platform. Very robust ... it handles my 40,000 + collection very well. It also has a feature that gets little "press" ... ita actually stores the info you enter to sort the files as tags on the files themselves. So if you ever need to move to another computer you don't have to start cataloging the collection all over.

This app is the reason I switched to the Mac 5 years ago.

DAZ Studio

For something offered on Mac Update, it contains surprisingly little Mac support. The user guide has a great step by step ... but when you try to follow it on a Mac, many of the Features are missing ... such as the built in tutorials. It is almost impossible to even figure out how to install the models and, like posted before, it is really only a Demo.
