4 still works, 5 a bust. ON/OFF grayed out, proxies grayed out, inaccessible, took my Reg info then went and stayed dead. Back to 4, working fine, waiting to see if support responds and whether or not I wasted my $ on 5 upgrade.
I like the cleaner, lighter interface of the earlier versions better (not to mention the more adult, if generic, icon of 1.2) - the whole dark gray on black thing is getting tiresome. But Adapter works as advertised and consistently gives me the most satisfying results of the many conversion programs I've tried.
Can't get email notification to work under any combination of names, ISPs, settings, etc. Earlier versions worked well (but I've moved to Lion since). Otherwise, a nifty, highly-recommended app, but the email notification is indispensable.
Got email alert going, so disregard above (users should be able to remove posts here). Deselected SSL and used port 587. Funny thing is, tho, that I tried that combo yesterday with no results. I did a slew of maintenance on the mac yesterday, so it's possible that a combination of factors helped, but the point is email alert is working and all seems well.
Once it's installed it still needs to quit and restart prefs when selected, then (at least on my system) says it can't connect with server to check for updates and it looks like I don't have MacFuse installed. Huh? As Pmcarrion writes below, this is the one to get: http://www.tuxera.com/mac/macfuse/MacFUSE-Tuxera-2.2.dmg - it's flawless and no CPU hog.
Freezes for me whenever I try to access Reader or PDF page. Went back to 5.0.5. Have purchased Lion but can't download until summer travels over - maybe 5.1 is more compatible with Lion...?
What's the deal here? There's virtually nothing on Micromat's site that says what's new about Version 6, yet it's $40 for an upgrade from 5. The What's New here lists general features that have been part of the app since at least v.4, if not 3. What changes were made for a jump from 5.0.7 to 6 that justify the upgrade fee? I'm willing to pay if I know what's different 'under the hood.'
Much improved, and so much FASTER! For years I was a loyal subscriber to VersionTracker, finding their interface so much cleaner, and their updating software far superior to what I thought was clunky and cumbersome about MacUpdate Pro. Wow - are the tables ever turned now! VersionTracker is dead since its takeover and getting pathetically worse all the time, while MacUpdate is simpler, cleaner, faster, and getting better all the time. But I digress. This update is a big improvement, its coding so much improved that with a couple of graphical changes it could have easily been passed off as 6. I don't work for this outfit and don't know anyone who does - I'm just a satisfied customer. My rating on this is 4.5 for some minor and subjective features settings. In short, good stuff.
It obviously works for some, but not for me. I checked the prefs, even did a restart, but the dock is just the dock. The app does absolutely nothing. Cmd/tab only brings up the finder icon. Created a test user with same results. On MacBook Pro 10.6.4.
Clean, elegant multi-use plugin. Microsoft got it right here. They're really no more the Evil Empire than any other scarcity-based, fear-mongering capitalist outfit, i.e., all U.S. businesses, including Apple. This is superior to Flash in every way
Tried this a few times with restarts, permission repairs, etc. As soon as it installs it opens Parallels and Windows. No sign of the plugin anywhere on the Mac side. MacBook, 10.6.3, Safari 5 (also, does installer give a choice of All Users or individuals? Have no choice in the window except all users). Also sent this info to developer.
Looks like Parallels hijacked with .safariextz extension and want to load itself instead of letting safari handle it.
Step 1. The installer is only necessary for those without extensions enabled. If you have done that already we're set for Step 2, if not please make sure you have enabled extensions by following the instructions below.

Step 2. Download the "extension only" using the dark green button from http://echodot.com/creations/amazon_search_bar/
Unzip this, and drag and drop the .safariextz file into Safari 5.
I dragged it directly into Safari and all works fine.
