Wow - I couldn't be more disappointed. The previous version worked almost flawlessly for me - I had occasional crashes, but the encodes were always perfect. This version never crashes on me, but I'm having terrible luck with the encodes. Using the presets for AppleTV, every movie I've done so far has bombed in some way. Transcoding an existing mkv or mp4 to make it AppleTV friendly resulted in a doubling of the length of the movie, with the audio track at half speed (ie. slow-mo audio that's twice the length of the movie). Then I tried backing up my WaterWorld DVD - it looked great for awhile, and then suddenly becomes choppy and watchable - so jittery that it makes you motion sick. Another movie arbitrarily dropped bits of the video, so scenes got cut short.
What's happened to this excellent software? This is absolutely horrible! Are others having issues? I upgraded my PowerMac G5 with the old version to an 8-core Mac Pro with this version (64-bit). Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for the comments Robotank. I do indeed have VLC in the right place, with the right bits. I also use RipIt or MTR, and make sure the Video_TS plays fine before encoding. What worked using the AppleTV preset in the previous version right "out of the box" no longer seems to do it. I tried WaterWorld again, this time altering the preset and forcing it to 29.97 fps instead of the preset setting of "same as source". This turned out better - so I may have to use that every time. I never did get the weird audio problem figured out though. I will definitely use the forums for help. Thanks again for the suggestions!
I'm surprised to hear some people are having issues. I think this is the slickest piece of software I've ever used. It is literally a perfect solution for running Windows apps on the Mac, and it's so impressive at doing that, that I've been showing this to everyone in my office. I am even endorsing this to incoming Mac-using students to our university as a seamless way to "fit in" to our Windows-centric environment. We used to tell students that they needed a PC, and that they'd have a hard time with a Mac. Now I feel comfortable telling them that they can keep their Mac, and this will work for the remaining software packages that don't have a Mac version.
My personal feeling is that one shouldn't pollute one's Mac with Windows - but if it's unavoidable, this is the ideal way to go. :)
FWIW, this may be a beta - but it's been absolutely rock-solid for me, and I tend to really tax my system.
This is back to being my favourite application. I find it indispensible for MySQL administration. The past few versions have been rock-solid. Setup is still a little tricky, but has been improved considerably with the setup scripts.
I had hoped for an easy solution to get Apache 2/PHP 5/MySQL 5...but I couldn't believe it was this easy. After I downloaded it and started it up, I almost laughed out loud - I thought it was too good to be true. I had imagined I would be spending an afternoon messing with my system, but it was up and running in about 30 seconds.
I don't know what I'd do without this app. As a web designer, it's invaluable for determining available screen real estate. Thanks so much for this - I've been using it since the first version.
This has indeed become much more stable in the past few releases, and the developers are very helpful. My only complaint is how slow it seems to be. I have a dual 2.5GHz G5 PowerMac with 2GB RAM on a fast LAN, and I can really feel it when it begins to sync. Things slow considerably, and it takes a long time (I believe I have it configured properly - including no longer syncing items older than 2 weeks, and tasks past 5 days). Invitations to calendar requests take a very long time, as well (a couple of minutes. Is this normal?).
Even with this new version, I still get the widget error message "the DynDNS Updater daemon refused a conenction...daemon is not compatible with this version of the DynDNS updater" (Using Snow Leopard). Any suggestions?
I love the widget - but it has a box on the front that tells me that there's an update available, all the time. Clicking on it doesn't do anything. As far as I can tell, it's the latest version. Anyone else have this?
