This is a very clean and elegant text editor. Its fullscreen mode, graphics and soothing sounds help getting in the mood of writing. Though I don't like that I'm forced to work in fullscreen mode (or am I missing anything here?) which I don't always prefer.
Anyway, if you're looking for a simple and minimalist distraction free writing app, Ommwriter is an excellent choice. If it wasn't for Byword this was my text editor of choice as well.
For a long time I was looking for a simple text editor that supports my writing flow. Byword seems to be that app.
It highlights just a few lines of text around the cursor so that I can focus on that part of the text. Also it works great in a regular window as well as fullscreen. Furthermore it fully supports Lion's autosave and resume functions which feel a bit strange at the beginning but when I got used to them they're perfect for writing. Last but not least Byword supports Markdown including HTML preview.
Byword is actually the first text editor I use regularly. It just feels right.
This is an unobtrusive and lightweight app sitting in the menu bar using little resources. It is able to remember up to 10,000 clippings, though I haven't tried that yet (which might be resource hungry as mentioned in the preferences). Clippings can be organized in archives so that regularly used ones are quickly available.
There aren't many features but it simply does what it is supposed to do. There are other similar clipboard apps like ClipMenu which I also like a lot (yeah, it's even free) but I really like the approach of the developer to build small and useful apps for everyday purposes. Anyway, for currently $5 you can't do wrong. Highly recommended.
