I have been a VueScan user for years. It allowed me to keep my sleek Canon N656U when OS X first came out. After all these years and various updates to OS X the pair still work great together.
Transmission is a great BitTorrent client but sometimes a new version does not work as expected. I tend to wait a while until I update to the latest version although I certainly appreciate the fact that the software is actively developed and bugs are rather quickly addressed. It is much leaner than Vuze and overall a very solid performer.
VLC has served me very well over the years by playing video files that other media player were not able to play without errors. Certainly the best video player in its price class.
As a songwriter I have been looking for a rhyming dictionary that can find family rhymes for the longest time. From a creative standpoint this software is second to none. It would be better without the activation and the app takes a while to start up but it is still a great tool.
