1Password

Bschappel reviewed on 13 Sep 2011
I've been a loyal customer for a long time. I acquired 1PW in a bundle many years ago and I've paid for several upgrades and bought 3.9 last night. I want to warn people about one thing I had happen to me.

I had 1PW 2.0 and when I moved to 3.0 I converted my keychain. Later I started using Dropbox to share the keychain to my several computers. When I installed 3.9 and ran it it found the OLD keychain and imported it. When I went into Prefs to switch to Dropbox version 3.9 moved my OLD keychain to my Dropbox folder. I had a think I had a minor heart attack thinking that all the passwords I've added since my switch to Dropbox were gone.

As it turns out I was lucky. I had my 3.8.5 1PW keychain in a folder in my Dropbox folder so I was able to replace the 3.9 keychain (that contained OLD data) with the current keychain.

If you've been a longtime user BEFORE you launch the MAS version 1PW go into ~/Library/Application Support/ and rename the 1Password folder to a different name!!! (I used 1Password.OLD). The make sure that your 1PW keychain is in the ROOT of your Dropbox folder. Then launch version 3.9.

A note to Agile: You should do a better job of looking for keychains and compare the dates on the keychains if you find more than one. Present a dialog box allowing us to choose which keychain to use.

Otherwise I'm happy with what you've been doing to make this work according to Apple's guidelines under Lion and Safari 5.1. I know first hand how hard it is to jump through Apple's hoops.
