TunesArt

Bobzozus reviewed on 11 Jan 2012
This is a review of version 1.2.1. I use Lion, and I find the free version (a link to download is provided further down this page)- is fantastic. I don't use it to pull album art. However, it is great for finding lyrics. Much better than my other apps- such as TuneLyrics and Lyrica. It also can be used to do a google search, or paste the lyrics into the track. Indispensable in this version for Lyrics. I also use it for putting album art on the desktop. From the reviews- the newer version may not have the same functionality. My two cents. My ratings are for V. 1.2.1.

Just wanted to comment about the developer. He (they) really stand behind their product. I had difficulty, and they went above and beyond the call to make me a happy customer. They are serious about providing superior customer service- and, I am appreciative of this! Bob Zozus

FruitMenu
Bobzozus commented on 04 Apr 2011
Developer support is absolutely horrendous for this app- and Menumaster. I contacted both their sales and tech support team- never heard back.

FruitMenu was interfering with another program- as reported by the error log (believe it was Overflow). Stopped using, problem solved.

MenuMaster interfered with Dashboard. Deep Sixed that, and problem solved.

I have requested a refund from the developers- no response. Waiting for PayPal to refund my money. I bet they won't have any more success in getting reply from the developers than I.

And, it's a shame. I enjoyed some of the functionality of FruitMenu. And, believe it or not, liked the silly effect Menu Master has on label on drop down menus. The cool thing, is though I deinstalled the program- the silly effect continues.

Not a total waste. Hope you have better luck with their customer support than I enjoyed.

Bob

Excellent free app! Love the way that it displays track changes with much customization- and, allows keyboard control. Thank you.

Like this app in combination with MenuTunes. IMO, it does not do a good job of keyboard integration. And, it does not do a good job of track display changes (I use MenuTunes for the above). However, I do like the LyricWiki and album cover integration. As well as the access to playlists.

Keyboard Maestro

Bobzozus reviewed on 10 Sep 2010
Just wanted to echo other reviewers. I love Keyboard Maestro.

I have developed many work flow short-cuts that save many minutes of repetition per day. And, I keep on finding new uses for the program.

Thanks goes to the developer for a fine and solid program.

If I could make one suggestion- it would be for better documentation. Once you get the hang of using Keyboard Maestro- it's easy. However, I feel that the documentation does not aid well this process. For an application that saves so much time- it is too bad that the documentation does not decrease the learning curve.

In my ratings- I gave it an excellent main rating- because it is truly amazing and indispensable to me. However, I give it 4 on Features and Ease of Use because I still believe that features could be added- and the aforementioned issue I have with its documentation.

Word Counter

Bobzozus reviewed on 10 Sep 2010
What a great app! And, for free. Please frequent the developers web site and get a screen saver. Or, donate. What a gem!

The perfect complement to any word processor. The perfect augmentation to any writer's armamentarium.

Along with Apple's own dictionary and word services; and Spell Catcher- I feel truly supported to just write- with whatever tool I wish.

This is especially useful for Text Edit Users. One of those apps that once you have- you wonder how you lived without!

CopyPaste Pro

Bobzozus reviewed on 26 Jul 2010
CopyPaste- in my view- recently took a step backwards. First, the pros:

I use it because I like the Clip Archive feature. This is very powerful and worth the price of admission for me.

Does keep an accurate history of all clips used.

And, it is easy to access for those who like the graphical interface- which is elegant. For those who don't mind an interface which lends itself better to keyboard interface- I would go with PTHPasteboard Pro. I don't find the interface as polished as CopyPaste- and the Clip Archive feature is a little harder to use- in my opinion.

Now, why do I feel that it has taken a step backwards. Because, now text manipulation and management of clips must take place within an external- free word processor- Bean. Which means- all of the text tool services that used to be provided within CopyPaste itself- must be accessed through the additional step of opening up Bean. It may aid in the stability of CopyPaste- but, I dislike the additional steps of having to open Bean- and, then figure out how to manipulate the text in the way I want using it's functionality. Prior to this change- CopyPaste allowed you to use ClipTools within it's own interface- which seemed quicker and easier- to me.

I have always found the CopyPaste way of doing things a bit obtuse. The manual is online- with no PDF version. That means that it is more difficult to search and find the answers you want (and, yes, I know you can use search and find through the web browser- just not nearly as powerful as PDF searching). Once you figure out how to get it do what you want- it's o.k. Just not the most intuitive app- IMHO. For example, it took me over 30 minutes to figure out how to delete a clip from a clip archive. In the manual, it said you just had to press the delete key. A no go on my system. I finally figured out you had to preview the clip- which then offered a delete button. Cumbersome. And, in fact, the easiest solution- dragging the clip from the palette- which should work in my opinion- doesn't.

So, why do I use CopyPaste. I like the graphical interface. I like the archive palettes. It does allow, with effort, to edit your clips. And, once I figured it out- I could incorporate it into my work flow.

One last thing- if you are buying this clip board app because you want to use it extensively to clean and manipulate your clip's text- then you may be doing yourself a disservice. I look at CopyPaste as providing superior access to Clip History and Clip Archives using convenient graphical interfaces. If you need to do a lot of text cleaning and manipulation- you are better served by using the highly recommended TextSoap. For me- CopyPaste provides an excellent historical data base for my clips. If I want to change this text- I use TextSoap.

Oh, yes. I forgot to mention. I think this App- a one trick pony that performs fairly well- is, seriously overpriced. I only bought it because I was able to get it during a half-price MacUpdate Promo ($15)- thanks MacUpdate! Otherwise, I would not spring the money for this app. I would still be using one of the free alternatives I have collected. Not happily. But, I try not to overpay for software. That's my opinion of course. Your mileage may vary!

Path Finder
Bobzozus had trouble on 09 May 2011
This is not necessarily the program's trouble- it is my own. I am thinking of purchasing Pathfinder (it is on sale elsewhere for the next few days.) However, I am not sure why I would do so, except for it's excellent reputation. I use the excellent Default Folder to place files where I want them. I use EagleFiler or iDocument to organize them (based on need). Keep a pretty clean download folder. Have DeltaWalker to do folder comparison. So, I'm just curious if I'm missing something by not purchasing Pathfinder. I'm not a power user- just a normal, somewhat knowledge user who does not program or do graphic work. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you. I did purchase when I had a difficult time handling a bunch of files (renaming task). I use it sparingly, but am glad that I made the purchase. It may be more useful to me in Lion- since, I am not sure that I am going to like the changes made to the finder.

I had the same problem when downloading version 1.4.3. It wouldn't open. However, I sent an email to support- and, they got back to me the next day. Apparently, the 1.4.3 version is compiled as a 64-bit application- which has not opened on some systems. They directed me to this site- for version 1.4.2. It works! I'm a happy camper again. So, I give their Tech support an A+! However, they should have made note on this site (and others) of the potential difficulty with version 1.4.3. Or, waited to release it until it worked on all Intel systems running Leopard.

Thanks, Zom, for getting back to me...

1. No, I don't think the slider is obtrusive at all. My problem on my system is that it does not float above all the other windows- like it did in Tiger. In other words, when I switch to an app that takes up the whole screen- it disappears. Unfortunately, that limits greatly the use of the slider.

2. And, with regard to the upper right hand side of my menu disappearing- I'm not sure where I would get such a log. I'd be glad to search for it- if I knew how!

3. Glad you are thinking of adding an updater.

I really miss Mousequeak. I do hope that I can again use it- soon!

With respect and admiration,
Bob

P.S. I'm glad you explained the logic behind the name. Makes sense. However, not sure if it would work in the U.S. should you decide to market Mousqueak in the U.S. as a shareware app.

Mousqueak
bobzozus had trouble on 26 Apr 2009
Hi Zom!

Thanks for continuing to work on this. I do like the modular design that you are working towards- to reduce potential conflicts with other programs- I bet. Nice.

However, a few thoughts on the transition and new program.

1. It would be nice if there was an easy way to know there are updates to Mousquek. Sparkle, perhaps. Or, at least a link that would allow one to know if you updated the app.

2. The name- I'm sorry, I just don't get it. What about "ITunes Slider Control" or the "ITunesSlider" or even "ITunesSlider Control & Display"?

3. Just recently, I had both ITunesVolume 1.22 & Mouseqeak break on me so that I can not use them. Specifically, it won't do the following:
a. Stay above all the other application windows. No matter if I ask it to stay above the menu- or float.
b. And, it destroys the right side of my finder menu. Once I run Mousquek, or ITunesVolume for that matter- the right upper side of my Finder menu disappears- in all apps. Very frustrating. No more time, date, etc.

Anyway, I will keep an eye on your efforts. Your program, in comparison to all the other myriad ITune products out there does some things outstanding (or has, in the past). They are:

1. Animate the album art when the song changes. Great effect!! If possible, a feature request would be to allow the possibility for the effect to be invoked with each song change- not just each album change. It is so cool having the album artwork hurdle towards you- no other app does this- to my knowledge.
2. Best implementation of showing the lyrics and artwork to an album by simply putting your cursor over the slider. Outstanding. Now that I can't use your app- I go to the Dashboard to look at Lyrics & artwork. Not as convenient.
3. Only Itunes controller app that I know of that allows switching of playlists without using a menu item.

For each of these three things- your app stands alone. I am sorry that I can no longer use it for these three functions- in particular. I know of no alternative programs that allow this functionality.

Good luck with further development. I'll be watching. And, thanks!!

Still a great app. However, the developer has been hassled by the record companies- which claims that this little app violates their copy write protection. What? Anyway, this version does not work anymore- it may have been disabled. The good news is if you use version .6.3- it still works. It can be downloaded from this site- the only one I have found that still has it: ! If, for some reason, you can't get it there- I will be happy to send you the dmg. I can't believe this freeware developer is being hassled for providing a service to the Mac community- which makes ITunes that much more enjoyable. No wonder they will all be subsumed by direct to marketing in the coming years. Good riddance! P.S. Sorry about the diatribe- this is just one of life's little injustices that just crawls under one's skin....

My download link for Pearlyric .6.3 was blocked out of the last missive. So, I will try to spell it out. You can download it at the Softpedia website. Mac Os- then dashboard widgets- then under music- on the second page- you will find Pearlyric .6.3. You also might try iLyrics 2.4 (don't try to Download from MacUpdate- it sends you to a site where the file seems unaccessible) & iTunesLyrics 3.2- both found on the first page of the widget section for Music on the Softpedia website. Hope this helps someone!
